J-Lo, Steven Tyler, and holdover Randy Jackson. I will try to stay open-minded, because I have been a fan of IDOL since Day 1, but I really feel this signifies the beginning of the end for this show. Paula leaving was the first nail...adding Ellen (though I love her) was the 2nd nail...Simon leaving was a HUGE 3rd nail...and having to watch the walking-dead-looking Steven Tyler week after week could be the final nail in the American Idol coffin.

    Thoughts?

I agree. Unless this is some master plan publicity stunt where in 2 years, Simon (and maybe Paula) comes back to the show, reviving its fan base, ratings, etc etc...

I dunno on some points I kinda agree but then again...everyone up there on the judges panel now has some sort of background in the music industry that IMO really gives them more credibility when critiquing vocal/musical talents. Honestly though...this show kinda died for me when Chris Daughty lost and again when Adam Lambert lost. The facial reactions of the contestants says it all.

Oh and wtf was up with Sanjaya Malakar lasting for that long? icon_rolleyes.gif

Edit: but omfg Paula....was a trainwreck heard for miles around. Google her drunken videos. icon_eek.gif

I don't watch it as i'm here in England, but if i am right in thinking you guys are getting the X-Factor v soon, therefore i can see Idol getting blown out of the water by it. Especially if Cowell is to judge on the X-Factor!

i barely watched any episode but i think now the judging will be pretty accurate because its coming from 3 judges who are REALLY involved with the music industry..and i have to agree with an interview i saw once on Jlo being a judge..i think she is perfect for the job since she knows the industry inside out..she made herself into a money making machine just with her music alone..

When Simon said it was his last season, I knew it was mine too, and I hadnt missed an episode since day 1.

With Simon creating/judging an American version of The X Factor, on the same channel as Idol...it makes ya wonder if Fox knew Idol was on a downward spiral, so they are bringing the X Factor to drive that final nail...
honestly, wherever Simon goes, most every fan is gonna go with him....he's like the pied piper.

and really, I think J. Lo does not have the cred to be judging anyone...shes a diva who is stuck in 1999. I dont know anyone who sees her movies or buys her music....at least Steven Tyler has longevity and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction under his belt....he's just ugly as hell. ha.

I think Jlo would be great..more than Paula actually...Jlo literally started at the bottom and she made her way to top of the charts with her first 2 cds..mind you she dropped after that..but its not about talent alone..you have to KNOW business..like madonna who i also think has no talent, but do pick up on trends on what sells including sounds and voices..

Why is this show still on? It's offensive to people with musical talent!

It doesn't say much when your only solid musical talent from the show is your very first winner, your fourth winner, and some guy who placed fourth.

To be fair, a good amount of musical talent has come out of "American Idol". It is what it is -- a talent show -- but it's made household names of people like Grammy winners Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson, and Oscar and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson.

Was a big A.I. while in high school, its slowly went down hill. I got tired of the same bull every season such as having Ryan as the host EVERY SINGLE EPISODE. Like seriously can the man not take one night off or be sick for one show so there could be someone different.

I will probably watch it here and there but not religiously like in the past.

BRING BACK PAULA!!! atleast that crazy bitch brought some entertainment to the show! I think this will be one of the last seasons ESPECIALLY since Simon is out and everyone will watch X Factor instead!

Fairness says they've made fun of more people than they have produced.

When you make people you know sound bad perform a song after their initial one to put them in a montage... yeah. No. Down right disrespectful and truly doing it for the ratings.

I stopped watching AI after Fantasia won. I might start watching it again just because Mrs. Lopez is there. I want to see their chemistry and attitude towards the contestants. Hopefully, it won't be as boring as when that Carla G. was "judging it". That was bad. I never liked that woman.
