Ciarsolo saidI find MOTD threads annoying as is, but one where the leading contender gets smeared in the opening post as a means of lobbying for someone else is especially unattractive.
I don't find them annoying, but trashing one to get votes for another is pitiful.
I'll say it again, this time specificially to people who post MOTD threads with the best of intentions:
"At the risk of being a killjoy, those "Vote my friend ____ MOTD!" threads annoy me because it stacks the deck against other less vocal members who may be more deserving. It's an honor just to be nominated, so if you must give your friend an unfair advantage why not level the playing field a bit by simply nominating him until he wins instead? While the process, like most elections, is by definition a popularity contest there's something to be said for winning on your own merit."
I'll admit that I read this thread because it was unusual to have two MOTD threads on the same person the same day. Again, I don't get bent out of shape by the threads; it's just that seeing the titles are mildly annoying akin to being subjected to someone else's cell phone conversation without eavesdropping, which I'm sure is how a lot of other members feel about, say, some political thread titles that we try to train our eyes to skip over. Needless to say, I think the MOTD feature itself is great.
Okay, I promise to now stop sharing my views on the MOTD process.
