Summer Skiing in South America?

I am curious if anyone has been to Argentina or Chile to ski during our Summer? I hear New Zealand is fun but too far and expensive. Is there any type of gay social life at or near any of these areas. How long did you ski? what were the snow conditions and hotels like? Were there other Americans at the area?

Any information would be great.

NZ skiing doesnt compare. they get ok snow but the resorts are small and just dont compare. there are no mountain villages etc.
ive been to Cadrona, Coronet peak, Treble Cone on the South island but i dont know about the North island.

what about Australian skiing? haha
naah australian skiing is so unreliable. not worth it unless you know for sure there is decent snow, even then it doesnt compare.

best bet would be Chile, i havnt been but i have heard the snow is just as amazing as the resorts.

if the american ski team go there for summer training i think its good enough!

not sure about argentina, i read there that the snow is a bit unreliable.

Hi there

I live in Brazil and was looking into skiing in Argentina and I found out that Pride travel have a gay ski week in Bariloche described by them as a little switzerland. They have a week long package with two nights in Buenos Aires and 5 nights at the ski resort. Saturday August 9th until August 16th. ALthough i am sure they do personal itineries too.

Hope that helps
Rafe

Bariloche is AWESOME! I prefer it to any of the Chilean resorts, and even to Las Lenas (the other big Argentinean resort).

Bariloche does feel like a Swiss ski town. Absolutely beautiful there with the scenic mountains right up against the lake region. The people are gorgeous (both inside and out), and the dollar goes a LONG way. The food and wine is top notch, very gay friendly, and very welcoming to all. There are alot of Europeans and upper class Argentineans here, and many of the National teams from other countries train there during our summer months.

Chile has some great skiing too, but I always dell like on college break, or among a bunch of soccer hooligans when I'm there. Much rowdier over on that side.

NZ has some nice resorts and skiing, but notice how much I'm gushing about Bariloche? ;-)

I went skiing in Chile at el colorado and it was awesome, but I didn't make the arrangements so I can't give you a whole lot of specifics. Unbelievable skiing, though, if you get the chance, do it.
