    Hi Everyone:

On Friday, Feb. 29th, Ellen will pause at the beginning of her show to speak about an atrocity that occured on Feb. 12th.

A 15yr old 8th grade boy from Oxnard, CA was murdered (shot to death) by another boy in his class because the victim asked the perpetrator to be his valentine. So, the perpetrator thought it OK to bring a gun to school and murder the victim.

Ellen speaks beautifully and eloquently about this horrific crime (without any political agenda).

I strongly urge everyone to listen to her words (especially at the end) and share it with as many of your family and friends as possible.

    Please don't miss this.

And, afterwards, I'd appreciate your comments or thoughts.

    Thanks,
    B787

I really liked her mentioning the punch line of jokes... how often is even the hint of gayness used as a titillating punch line of a joke on TV.

Right on about the punch lines. I cringe watching Leno's gay jokes. Ryan Seacrest's name won't be mentioned without a gay reference, and Leno's other gay jokes usually involve men wearing a dress or some messed up link like that.

    I appreciate hearing your comments.

And I so agree with Caslon and everyone else that nowadays comedians use gay slurs "in jest" to get a laugh - which I believe is degrogatory and discrimminatory. All that rhetoric does is continue to perpetuate negative sterotypes and images to all especially impressionable 15 yrs olds !!!!!

Anyway, I wrote Ellen an email thanking her for taking valuable air time to create awareness about this crime and articulate comments which bring about a crystal clear perspective.

How strange. I live in San Diego, CA. I was actually driving up the coast through Lompac and Ventura when I heard this story on talk radio. For California, it is a very rural community. But I thought,"How can this happen in California?". Unfortunately it still can. It happened maybe 30 miles south of where Oprah lives. How can this be? Kids killing kids. What made that kid think, need, want to get a gun and shoot another little kid?
I don't know, but I do know what I can do. I can be openly gay, let people know I am gay, and let them know something about gay people. Maybe if they had had an openly gay teacher, public official, Uncle or friend, it would not have happened. Maybe it would anyway.
