I was about to post a thread on this and you beat me to it... I've always found it interesting when this day comes around and those born on this day...
They only really get to celebrate their birthdays every 4 years.

I assume most celebrate either on the 28th or the 1st of March. Can you imagine what that must be like, to enjoy your own day once every 4 years...... I hope those who have their birthdays today are REALLY enjoying a fun, special day....icon_biggrin.gif

I am wearing my superman shirt and saving people to celebrate...saving people part is a bit hard to do.

My friend in London sent me a text message telling me that it's traditional over there that it's ok for women to propose marriage to men on 29 February, so she proposed to me - because she had no one else to ask.

She quickly sent a second message telling me that she was sorry because that seemed kind of insulting.

I let her know that I'd've accepted if she'd have done the right thing and proposed on TV. I think she learnt hear lesson. icon_smile.gif

My brother's oldest kid, my niece, is turning 24/6 today. I am meeting them for supper to celebrate despite being very sick with a cold. I am wearing my winter jacket in my office to stop the shivering!icon_sad.gif

    Why February 29th any way?

Whose idea was it to add a day to the worst month of the year?

Why not have a June 31st, July 32nd or even August 32nd?

An extra day in the summer would be way better.

I always get these mixed up, but wasn't it Pope Gregory thus the Gregorian calendar?

    This is from Wikipedia:

The changes made by Gregory corrected the drift in the civil calendar which arose because the mean Julian calendar year was slightly too long, causing the vernal equinox, and consequently the date on which Easter was being celebrated, to slowly drift forward in relation to the civil calendar and the seasons.

The Gregorian calendar system dropped 10 days to bring the calendar back into synchronization with the seasons and, to keep it there, adopted the following leap year rule:

Every year that is exactly divisible by four is a leap year, except for years that are exactly divisible by 100; the centurial years that are exactly divisible by 400 are still leap years. For example, the year 1900 was not a leap year; the year 2000 was a leap year.[3]

In the Julian calendar, all years exactly divisible by 4 are leap years.

I am going to a friend's birthday party tonight...
He was born in 1968, and is turning 10 today.

Is he old enough to drink?
