Another religious right wing nut exposed for what he truly is: A total fraud that preys upon ignorant folks and make young boys his toys, complete with text messages, and pictures. As with any false belief system, his followers will refuse to see their cult for what it is, and they'll back him up until he's destroyed in court.

Kudos to broadcast news for exposing hypocrites like this guy and the kooks that give money to him.

It shows how truly ignorant many folks still are, and speaks to the fact that conformance theory and false belief systems are alive and well.

Yes, this story is really disturbing. Besides the boy toys, I find the whole idea of these televangelists driving around in Bentleys and living a flashy decadent lifestyle all kinds of wrong. I hope the guy is exposed for the fraud (and probably crook) that he is.

See that Ted Haggard is coming to his defense ... that's gotta help

I saw Ted Haggard on CNN.

Joel Osteen just moved into his 13.5 MILLION DOLLAR mansion.

What I find amazing is how ignorant folks surely must be to follow these con men, and to give them their hard-earned money. It shows you how weak, or perhaps, desperate some folks are. It's discouraging. Are folks really that ignorant? It seems, sadly, that they very much are.

Today in his sermon he said he was going to fight this, but never went on to claim the allegations were false. He seems to be taking on the role of the victim in this.

I think once the emails come to light, the pastor might be as guilty as I already think he is.

Two 20 minute sermons in which he vowed :

"I want this to be dealt in the court of justice and not by public opinion," he said. "I will say that I am going to fight, fight very vigorously against these charges."

But, as otterjoq pointedly notes - no denial or claim "before God" of his innocence.

First off, I think the allegations, if true, are pretty awful and the guy should face up to the consequences.

I think the reason Eddie is not denying anything at this point is probably based on good legal advice. By good I mean advice meant to help him with his goal of minimizing damage, not "good" because I want him to get away without facing up to these charges.

Most lawyers in situations like this or complicated divorces know that their client isn't telling them everything upfront, so they advise caution. They are waiting for the other shoe to drop...so to speak.

Most lawyers on the plaintiffs side dole out the information slowly and never show the complete hand until they have to.

Eddie's lawyers are probably advising him to wait to deny everything until they have more clarity on whether or not there will be more information coming forward.

The plaintiff's lawyers could be waiting for Eddie to publicly paint himself into a corner before springing their best stuff.

This is like a game of chess and we have only seen the opening moves.

The plaintiffs lawyers could be waiting for a settlement conference and we may never actually see all of the incriminating evidence.

Pediphile? Do you mean he has a foot fetish? or did you mean to "pedophile?"
Either way, from what I just read he sounds like more of a ephebophile, rather than a pedophile.
Pedophilia is associated with children and not individuals post-puberty and legal (in their respective state.)

"The men all say they became well-acquainted with Long when they were in their mid-teens. And after they passed 16 (the age of consent), they claim Bishop Long coerced and manipulated them into a "covenant" relationship where they were led into having sex. In return, he would provide them with cars, trips, access to celebrities, cash, jewelry, tutition, and housing. No criminal charges have been filed and Long and representatives of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church say the charges are not true. Two of the young men have been charged with robbing Long's office of very expensive jewelry and electronic devices."

They sound more like prostitutes rather than victims to me...

I haven't read any articles which states that there are creditable evidence for any of the allegations. It just sounds like a bunch of men came out of the woodwork to file lawsuits against an wealthy man. I believe this is pretty common occurrence. There has been no mention of even a hint of paper trail. I hope they actually have more evidence once this goes to trial.

Innocent until proven guilty... even tho he is a huge douche bag and I totally want him to fail.

Sorry, but I don't feel like arguing against the little whores who were on these trips, of legal age, no less, because they were "swayed" by his authority or spiritual guidance or whatever shit they said he used. I'm sorry that he flew you all over the fucking world for a blow job. Sounds like someone got over the "boi" mark and he dumped you. Boohoo.

Also if you are over the legal age of consent, guess what, its not against the law. If these kids didn't like it, why did they let it happen MULTIPLE TIMES?

Hey, leave Joel out of this. It is important to note that he does not take his salary from the church at all, that goes straight into charity. He also receive a lot of flack from other pastors because he doesn't condemn Homosexuality. The most anti gay thing he has ever said is, "I personally don't believe that it is God's perfect plan", and that was as a result of pressure from other pastors. I dislike most pastors, but Joel, guys a class act and he gets shit from both sides.

I suppose that if you require others to inspire you, you entrust your spiritual identity to the interpretation of a stranger or an institution, that your relationship with a higher power is co-dependent upon a man who takes your money and tells you that it is noble to be intolerant of others, well, I suppose that you get what you deserve. I am just thankful that the young men that were preyed upon were at least of an age that they either knew what they were getting into...or should have.

    That is called "grooming".

The point isn't just about them being young - it is about the hypocrisy of what he preaches.

I am going to use the words UpperCanadian has just used because they seem to fit so well as a response-

"The point isn't just about them being young - it is about the hypocrisy of what he preaches."
