The level of charges don't sound that severe considering they drove the student to suicide.

the thing is can they legally charge those two kids for driving the victim to suicide. Really just an awful thing to happen all around for such a stupid and vicious prank

I've said it before: groups like NOM and the Family Research Council are successfully lobbying against anti-bullying laws because that would mean teaching tolerance of LGBTQ students and preventing the kind of bullying that led this boy to commit suicide.

We've had 3 gay boys commit suicides in the past 2 weeks. How many more do we need?

I read this story this morning but it had said nothing about him being gay... but honestly as i read the article(this morning) my mind automatically jumped to the thought he must have been gay... it's a sad story and I think the 2 kids should face stiffer punishment.

I honestly do believe if the kid was straight he probably would not have cared about being videotaped.

They can't charge the roommates with the death of the kid who they videotaped because there is no physical evidence *proving* that being videotaped was the thing that drove him to kill himself. As of now, police are saying there was no note indicating this. Of course, common sense tells us all that this is what led him to jump off the George Washington bridge, assumedly to his death (as of this afternoon no body had been found), but common sense isn't enough to bring criminal charges.

It looks like the sentencing guidelines for the crimes they can be charged with (invasion of privacy) are probation to 18 months in prison. Considering these kids didn't have a prior criminal record and also in consideration of their age, I believe they will recieve probation. It's a nasty thing they did, but I doubt they intended to drive the kid to kill himself...they were just ignorant about the pain they would cause and thought this "prank" was just too "funny" to pass up.

Thanks for posting this. On the local news last night, there wasn't any mention of the victim being gay. I tried to find out more information because something sounded fishy and couldn't find anything. Very sad.

What an awful awful tragedy, and what a terrible waste of human life.

I am so sorry for his parents, friends and family.

It took me 4 hours to calm down after reading this.

And the other guy? He goes to have sex, finds out he was videotaped, AND his date threw himself off a bridge.

I hope they go to prison. I also hope they get sued by the dead boy's family and his date to the point that they have to sell their organs to pay off their debts.

Karma follows people for what they do. Their actions led to despair and death for an innocent boy. They will pay for this one way or another.

    Awful people.

What a very strange quote. No idea what to make of that really.

I wonder if there is more going on than the articles let on.

Jumping off a bridge sounds extreme after being outed as gay. I wonder if he had career aspirations that could be ruined by a sex tape. Life not worth living after something like that came out.

That's really sad on a lot of levels. Why the hell would the other students do that? It's so ridiculous and sad that this poor guy felt like he had no other option but suicide.

It's hard to climb the steps of life. It's easier for some to just knock those around them down a few steps so they feel superior.

It is unfortunate that we live in a world where sex is made out to be a shameful act.

Sounds like a movie in the making. I hope it's tragic.icon_razz.gif
But seriously, going to college doesn't mean that the mean bully streak in every high school student dies off. In fact, it's probably magnified and redirected.
