The Werther effect? The Truk suicide epidemic? Is the media actually worsening the problem (as Malcolm Gladwell suggests in The Tipping Point)?

I am wondering the same thing. What is happening all of a sudden? Have I just not noticed this before or is there a very real problem that is raising its ugly head?

I always knew suicide was an issue in the LGBT youth community, but it seems to have worsened dramatically this month.

lets face it it, even if the American government gave the american gay activist what they want. Young gay men in America would still committed suicide because of their own insecurities. You can change a law, but this will not change attatude over night.

But sadly activists are using these deaths, to beat the drum for their political agenda.

How many times have we read about you gay men wanting to seduce their straight room mate, or falling in love with him, or a guy in their class and so forth, they publish their feeling in public forums, giving no care for the feelings of the straight person they have a fascination with. Not even caring they could drive this young straight boy to suicide. Sorry but it's not a one way street.

Young good looking straight men, have feeling too.

Please direct me to such a story about straight guys killing themselves because of such postings from gay admirers.
Are you sure, as you put it, an "Aussie poffter"?

Is it really an epidemic or have such suicides been going on all the time just not recognized/reported?

I am sure such suicides have always been going on. But one for some reason catches the media's attention and that makes subsequent ones notable. Fortunately, once this issue becomes news something is mire likely to be done about it.

But I am kind of surprised. Today kids have far mire access to gay information and other gays. Back when I was young, I didn't know another gay person. I was harassed and teased. But I didn't jump off a bridge.

Hence the Werther effect. It would be better if the media concentrated on stories more like the guy who continued cheerleading with a broken arm, rather than the suicides.

Yes I am a pure, True Blue Aussie poofter; the real thing.icon_wink.gif

A young straight lad who committed suicide because another male tried to seduce him, or he found out his gay roommate was posting things about him, and or had a crush on him, or wanted to seduce him, would internalise his pain so much, it may never of been talked about. Also it would not be politically correct to post such stories either about a minority group.

How many times have we read such things here about young men haveing crushes on their straight friends, or roommates, and giving no consideration to that other persons feelings, only the feelings of the want of their dick.

So straight people are also victims of gay people, it's not a one way street. I know as a youth, I found it imposible to make friends with other gay people, without it involving sex, and I don't have sex with my friends; still.

I'm sorry, either my memory is faulty, or my Google skills are waning (due to age), but I can't find a straight guy killing himself because a gay admirer posted stuff about him. Can you please point me to the right direction?

    "you gay men"?
    So, you're not gay.
    You're straight and you're here - why?
To bash gay men on their own website?
    To spread right-wing BS?
    Both?

    That sounds about right.

Q you are far too good to fall for the nonsense this guy is spewing. That anyone would post such insensitive comments is truly a mark of their own character.

Don't pursue this and give him a reason to continue spewing his venom on this topic. It is ridiculously insensitive to anyone who has lost someone to suicide.

I don't speak ill of anyone on this site, but these comments are low and without basis in reality. I am disgusted that someone would use these deaths in such an offensive manner.
