well its my birthday, and i certainly feel like crying. Just want to make sure I'm not over reacting or anything, if you planned a big party and invited tons of people, and 5 showed up to a bar, where you had went through all the trouble of organising stuff with dinner and drinks, would you care? Or would you be be annoyed, peeved, pissed, or raving lunatic mad at all the people who didn't even bother a text to tell you they weren't going to come, after confirming they would do so?
Im pissed. Am I being a drama queen or are my feelings legitimately hurt?

Birthdays can be pretty tough. Every year when somebody doesn't show to mine (even though there's a legitimate reason) I feel so hurt.

I think the rational thing would be to focus on the 5 people who did show. Those are obviously people who really care about you. But I know it's easier said than done.

First off, Happy Birthday to you. Even if it wasnt that happy.

That certainly is a big blow, but dont get discouraged. For one now you know who actually cares about you, so that is good.

You are not overreacting, scream, cry and be angry, but tomorrow be cool and ignore the People that apparently let you down. Sounds like they werent worth the effort.

I had lost my job three weeks before my 21st birthday, and all my friends were broke, too, so I didn't get to celebrate being legal by getting drunk.

That's about the most devastating birthday I can think of. icon_lol.gif

I agree with the advice to focus on the five who showed up. As far as the others, people are flakes and good manners seems to be an exception, unfortunately. Stay positive and don't worry about it.

hey jonno, happy birthday! And yes i'd really think hard about whom you consider to be your friends.

Did you ask these folks to RSVP? Did more than 5 RSVP? Or did you leave it kinda loose? I find the more specificty on these sort of social commitments the better. People are down right rude and inconciderate these days, they have few true manners. If you were specific about RSVPs and folks RSVP'd and didnt show up. Reconsider with whom you consider good friends

Happy Birthday - You will get stronger from this, be the bigger guy here dude!

yeah. he sent me a quick text explaining things. it was out of hand when i went past, about 30 cops facing 5-600 people. he said hes guarding the detainees so i think hes safer, but still in the middle of things. so hes as safe as can be in a riot, lol. ill haveta make sure hes ok, maybe tend to any wounds...lol

yes there was an RSVP, and the way it worked only 3 of those who rsvp'd showed up, the rest didnt, while two others who didnt rsvp also showed up. of course im cutting one guy some slack since hes working a riot.

Dude that really sucks... but as lame as it is the good lessons usually come at a price. At least you know who your real friends are.

It happens to be cheaper on the booze too

And, happy bday of course icon_wink.gif

I want to wish you a happy birthday! Also, I know it sucks when people don't show to an event that you've put a lot of effort into, but if you can focus on the five that were there you will be able to have some joy. So many times we look at our lives in terms of what we don't have and it blinds us to what we do. You had five people who wanted to spend time with you! You can shrug that off as inconsequential or you can embrace it as a gift.

Those who couldn't make it may or may not have had good reason for not showing, but to lose sight of the gift of the five that did will only serve to make you unhappy.

Life it all about choosing your perspective!

    Have a wonderful birthday! icon_biggrin.gif

It does matter! And it's ok to feel hurt, just don't let it consume you. No matter what, remember there are people that care about you!

Sorry to hear that your birthday was not as special as you had wanted it to be. I'm sure that some of the ones who did not show had important reasons.
Possibly some of them were just flaky. Flaky friends come and go.....I look at them as acquaintances....rather than friends. It sounds like you have more than 5 good friends...and that is pretty good...because real good friends are not always easy to find.
