    Ha Ha,

I'm voting Democratic because I want the poor to stay poor, so they will need me and I can buy their votes.

I'm voting Democratic because I don't have the confidence to make it on my own and I want the Government to be my Nanny.

I'm voting Democratic because I learned in school it is best and I don't want to be confused by what has happened in Europe over the past 50 years.

I'm voting Democratic because I support a clean environment and want to keep people employed who will pick up after me. And to demonstrate my sincerity, I left all my trash on the mall in Washington after our big rally last weekend.

All this proves is your mindless jingoism. We should be lucky to be like Europe for the past 50 years.

Really, this reflexive chest-beating is so stupid.

I'm sure you will find my other message about Europe and make an equally ignorant comment. I have been on both sides of the iron curtain and have extensive experience in Western Europe. They are trying to get away from the bullshit you advocate.

PS - read shybuffguy's messages and study his references. If any of it rubs off even slightly, it will drastically increase your understanding.

socalfitness clearly has no understanding whatsoever of "Europe". If he did, he wouldn't make such remarkably sweeping statements.

Regrettably one can say little further than that because he offers only vagaries and not substantive points to critique.

"...no understanding whatsoever..." you are demonstrating exactly what you are criticizing... or should I say "criticising"? You were so happy to correct my spelling before but the irony was you were here 5-6 years and did not know the US and UK had different spelling. You made a total fool of yourself and tried to get out of it by saying Americans should know more than English. A completely irrelevant point, and for me humorous because I speak several languages.

Regardless of what you and JP state, your knowledge of Europe is as limited in depth as your understanding of spelling.

Message to JP - socialism had something to do with the problems, along with the political structures.

Well that silly tirade aside, you still haven't made any points at all.

And you look like a petulant (and ignorant) child. "Criticize" is a perfectly acceptable spelling in both the UK and the USA. The rest of your point is just a lie, rampantly mischaracterizing what happened in the thread which your'e referring to!

Now what evidence do you have that Europe is doing any worse than the United States?

At the moment parts of Europe (i.e. Germany) are doing better, but as soon as we get rid of this administration and congress, things will pick up. And pretty accurate characterization of the thread. Your own arrogance bit you in the ass.

And, as was so obvious in that other thread, you suffer from a sense that your experience is somehow more informed than those of us who have studied these issues extensively - which you apparently have not - because you were physically in Europe at one point?

Thanks to the magic of Google, I found it. The rest of you should reread it: it's particularly memorable because:

I made a really good point about Keynesianism...
...which Socalfitness apparently completely failed to understand and cited a high school textbook, missing the point entirely...
...then made a racist point about British people, presumably thinking that I was in the UK...
...and then proceeded to critique my spelling, bizarrely insinuating that since I was in the US, I ought to write in US English (this, people, is a logical fallacy called a Non Sequitur). Somehow, this is now supposed to imply that I was unaware that spelling conventions are different in the two countries---a point that hardly could be more ludicrous.

So far from his above delusional misrepresentation of events, it seems that in the previous thread it was him that looked like an idiot!

Have you seen a doctor about your senile dementia?

Actually, I have a high regard for Europe. The West bought into your philosophy and are now working to get themselves out. The East has with some pitfalls, embraced market economies, and are trying to make it work. I have not only studied the issues, but have built a business in Europe. Far from having been there at one point. Really does not compare to some book learning in Brooklyn.

Why would the economy "pick up" if we were to put the same crooked incompetent Republicans pushing the same failed Bush/Repub policies, back in control?
The Republicans are the ones who wrecked the economy to begin with, as the historical record PROVES.
And things have already been picking up.
The state of the economy has gotten better not worse over the past year and a half - as a result of the shift AWAY from the failed Repub economic policies.
Going back to failed Repub policies would only slow down the ongoing current recovery.

You're clearly living in Fox/Teabagger fantasy land.

You also seem to have become very bitter and desperate in your comments.
    What a shame.

I was citing a basic definition. You claimed I missed the point citing a definition because it hurt your fragile ego.

...then made a racist point about British people, presumably thinking that I was in the UK...
Race card - ridiculous, the British "race". Are you for real? Find the quote and tell me where I said anything derogatory about the British people, or British "race". I thought correctly you were in the US. Your profile indicated you were in the US, but incorrectly indicated how long you were here because you had not updated it at that time.

...and then proceeded to critique my spelling, bizarrely insinuating that since I was in the US, I ought to write in US English (this, people, is a logical fallacy called a Non Sequitur). Another total lie. You brought up the spelling issue, not I. You mistakingly tried to correct my spelling when I was correctly following US standard. A pattern you demonstrate making fun of guy's typos - like rob versus robe in the case of shybuff.

So far from his above delusional misrepresentation of events, it seems that in the previous thread it was him that looked like an idiot!
Best defense is an offense - my recollection and file copy of that thread are very clear. You can't stand being criticized when it is your desired role to be the arrogant prick. Too bad.

The sad part is, though, that some people (give about a 10-20 year span) have to live on welfare since getting a job makes it harder to make ends meet once you factor in certain factors like daycare.

First of all let me say, I'm pleased to see that you're embracing your inner little girl with the "diddums" bit, since you can dish it out but cry like a little girl when someone gives back as good as you give.

Seriously, you really should look in the mirror before you impune the intelect of other people! What "issues" have you "studied extensively" ?

Lets talk about them since you have such a vast knowledge of all things.

Let me give you my background, so you arn't at a disadvantage. Thanks to my evil, capitalist, Investment Banker father I went to school for a time in Europe. I visit Europe at least once a year. I have a few European investments. Oh, and my sister is a French citizen and has lived in France for the last 20 yrs. I still have family in Russia, whom I speak with often.

So, lets discuss what's going on in Europe.

Are you aware that the German economy is showing a great deal of growth at the present? The reason for the growth in the German economy is because of the tax cuts, spending cuts and cuts in social programs that are part of Angela Merkel's new pro-growth policies, which have helped Germany to capture a larger share of the export market.

Are you aware that France has the best health care system in Europe? Are you also aware that the French economy is crumbling under the weight of the costs of it's health care and other social policies? Are you aware that the french answer to the approaching colapse of their economy is redistribution from Europe, rather than the austerity measures adopted by other European nations?

Are you aware of the riots in the streets of France caused by a necessary measure to raise the retirement level by just 2 years from 60 to 62 in an sffort to stabalize the pension seytem?

Are you aware that there is a whole generation of young French people who have never been employed and have no prospect of ever being employeed as a direct result of the generous social benifits system in France?

Lets not limit our discussion to France.

Are you aware that European workers are encouraged by their unions to kidnap their employeers for use in collective bargaining?

Are you aware that because of Liberal Political Correctness run amok that there are huge lawless areas in cities throught Europe known as No-Go Zones controlled by Islamist, where the authorities are actually afraid to enter? Do you know who Ilam Halimi is? Ilam Halimi was a 23 yr old Parisian jewish boy lured by an Iranian woman, abducted, tortured, and murdered by a Muslim gang over a 24-day period. There hundreds of similar stories documented across Europe.

What about Greece? Are you aware that the taxation policies in Greece were so opressive they created an anti-business atmosphere that led in part to the collapse of the Greek economy under the weight of the masive costs of the Greek social structure? Are you aware that the measures recomended by the IMF and the EU to remedy the Greek situation are more privatization in the Greek system and less socialization?

Are you aware of the peril that the economy of Ireland is in, as a result of it's 'welfare state" policies, corrupt bureaucracy and inefficent oversight, inspite of sound economic growth over the last 20 yrs? Are you aware that bondholder bailouts and the bursting of an Irish version of the housing bubble in 2007 played a part in the crisis of the Irish economy?

Are you aware that the economies of Portugal , Italy and Spain are also expected to colapse under the weight of their entitlement syetems? That the EU and IMF are pushing austerity measures in these countries as well?

While we are on Spain, are you aware that the "Green Energy" scam colapsed in Spain when government subsidies were withdrawan? Are you aware that for each job created in Spain's green economy, 2 were lost in the general economy? Are you aware that "offically" Spain has a 20% Unemployment rate?

What about the UK? Are you aware that the UK is proposing deep spending cuts? Are you aware that the NHS plans to place restrictions on some of the most basic and common operations, including hip and knee replacements, cataract surgery and orthodontic procedures? The closure of nursing homes for the elderly? A reduction in acute hospital beds, including those for the mentally ill, with targets to discourage GPs from sending patients to hospitals and reduce the number of people using accident and emergency departments? Thousands of job losses at NHS hospitals, including 500 staff to go at a trust where cancer patients recently suffered delays in diagnosis and treatment because of staff shortages? Cost-cutting programmes in paediatric and maternity services, care of the elderly and services that provide respite breaks to long-term carers?

Explain to me again what about the social policies of Europe is so great?

You've studied what issues extensively? Before you imply others are uneducated or have no knowledge, you should look in the mirror. Your knowledge is not "stunningly lacking", it is stunningly nonexistent ! In history, it is stunningly nonexistant! In economics, it is stunningly nonexistant. In world events it is stunningly nonexistant! You truely are полезный идиот; poleznye idioty!

Which explains why socalfitness likes him, I guess!

The tragedy of this complete misreading of Europe is that it fails to absorb the genuine lessons here. Here are a selected few:

    (i) Ireland is a basket case due to a lack of regulation. For a time, this looked like a roaring success, but it seems no-one properly appreciated the risk of a systemic collapse. Fully half of the budget deficit this year in Ireland is connected with government support of banks.
---> LESSON: Capitalism is very good in boom-time, but large-scale systemic risk needs to be properly accounted for. Carefully targeted regulation---capital requirements etc---could have done much to help matters.

(ii) Greece is a basket case because of wholesale corruption, a culture of not paying taxes, and lassaiz-faire public spending. If any of these had not been present, Greece would not be in the same place it is now.
---> LESSON: Countries cannot safely experience growth without good governance.

(iii) Here's the root of it: The Euro has created a monetary union without a political union, and where France and Germany ignored the very treaty that was supposed to reel everyone in (the European Stability Pact), everyone else did too. Countries like Ireland, Greece and Italy that were manifestly not as credit-worthy as Germany.
---> LESSON: The Euro, while an extremely noble project, was not created with adequate political instruments to avoid large internal imbalances building up.

(iv) The UK has been extremely hard hit because so much of its economy is based on banking. The discussion about the NHS above was entirely misinformed: the proposed changes are to decentralize budgets placing them in the hands of GPs. I'm not at all convinced it's going to work!
---> LESSON: Diversified economies are a very good idea!

    (v) There is another lesson here: Germany has been a country built on exports for ages now. This is why it was quick to fall and quick to pick up [not least because of the cheap Euro]. Long term, this has been damaging to the rest of Europe. The parallels between the US and China ought not be lost here.

(iv) The Islamophobic diatribe is sheer naked racism.

Jeez. You really still don't get it. I was pointing out that a high school textbook is NOT A RECOGNISED SOURCE (whatever that means).

I was making a point about Keynesianism at an *academic* level. Appropriate sources in this context are:

    (i) Works by Keynes himself.
(ii) Scholarly works i.e. journal articles/books about Keynes. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE HIGH SCHOOL TEXTBOOKS.

Please tell me that you understand this. Otherwise I'll have to make glove puppets.

So, your whole post is based on the a misogynist smear that I'm a "little girl" and then a slew of Fox News talking points about the evils of socialism without one source cited? Actually, you're better off not citing your sources since the last time you did, it was very easy to prove that the source actually contradicted your reading of it.

    Yeah. you're a brain trust.

Oh, and thanks for admitting that your the child of privilege who is as far from "self-made" as one can get? I think we're all clear on how you got your money (inherited it) and how you got your business (daddy found you investors). And, for proving that those who inherit their wealth are always greedily grasping on to it, while those who actually work for it usually want to give back.

So now you're shybuffguy's acolyte? You were SB's just a few weeks ago. Diddums have a squabble in the conservative tree fort? Let me guess, you fought over who was prettier; Anne Coulter or Christine O'Donnell?

Seriously, your knowledge is stunningly lacking and you have a reflexive dislike for all things European. And, as was so obvious in that other thread, you suffer from a sense that your experience is somehow more informed than those of us who have studied these issues extensively - which you apparently have not - because you were physically in Europe at one point?

Don't you think you are overreaching a bit? It's a good conspiracy theory, but I really don't think you have much proof that he inherited a lot of money and that his father found him investors for his business.

I'm not saying that those things are not possibilities, but you state them with such certainty that it appears that you are more interested in pushing an agenda / vendetta than in writing truthful statements.

And where were you when he was calling me a "leech?" Sounds like I'm not the only one with an "agenda/vendetta." icon_rolleyes.gif

No. shybuffguy. Did you read the thread?

Certainly, NOT a child or privilege here. Ask Shy, I'm a "leech" sucking the golden blood of the children of investment bankers. icon_twisted.gif

I'm voting Democratic because I don't have the confidence to make it on my own and I want the Government to be my Nanny.
The sad part is, though, that some people (give about a 10-20 year span) have to live on welfare since getting a job makes it harder to make ends meet once you factor in certain factors like daycare.

So... DON'T HAVE KIDS IF YOU KNOW YOU WILL BARELY BE ABLE TO AFFORD THEM!

    Thank you.
It's more complicated than that. Not all single moms are Octomom.
