What I really like about this is that the guy fought back, what I don't like is that this is the only article that mentions such icon_sad.gif

Article"Carver fought back, elbowing one of his assaulters in the face four times, and eventually the fight moved from the bathroom into the main bar. Carver went to find a weapon from the pool table, but was held back by another patron, and Francis and Orlando slipped out.'

I am SO glad that a gay man punched out these f**kheads
and if ANYONE deserves to be charged with a hate crime it's these two

To go into a gay bar
Know that it's gay any specifically target someone for violence? If that isn't a hate crime ... then I don't know what is

I just saw this on the morning news. There was also an attack in Chelsea: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/05/nyregion/05stonewall.html.

I've walked into Stonewall many times since it reopened after renovations a couple years ago. After a few seconds I always leave. It's always filed with approximately 50% female clientele when I've seen it, so it's not obviously a gay bar. The Stonewall's place in history is awesome, the mixed bar is not my style.

I haven't been there in quite a while.

Before I moved to NY I pretty much stopped going out because the gay clubs were always full of bachelorette parties.

It is true... every bar you go in is 50% women. Splash is sometimes worth their exorbitant cover charge and drink prices just because they do not admit women (which means they also don't admit straight lurkers who are trying to meet women whose defenses are down). I guess they can't afford to turn patrons away but I really wish we could go back to the days of "you know this is a gay bar, right?" at the door.

I've been to the Stonewall, simply as a kind of "pilgrimage" thing. Actually not much there now, more like a modest neighborhood bar. The Monster on the next corner is bigger and more entertaining, though it has its own drawbacks.

I tend to be a bit territorial, like a dog. Brave on my own turf, more timid on someone else's. So gawd help the straight guys who confront me in a gay bar. At least until their numbers totally overwhelm me.

But unless the place is completely empty, and so long as my voice will be heard, I figure I've got the ultimate advantage, and I'll stand my ground. Until weapons are drawn, of course, but even then I know how to disarm guys. And then your ass is really mine, and I don't mean in a pleasant gay way.

As an aside, the linked article mentions gay men fighting back during the pivotal police raid in 1969. Actually it included many drag queens, who really led the counterassault. I think that's wonderful.

And I was in Manhattan during those several days, just a few blocks away, totally oblivious to what was going on. I was shopping for things I'd need the last week before I was to enter active duty with the US Army.

It wasn't until I returned home some 25 miles away and the riot had finally made the front pages that I read about it in the newspapers. I still kick myself for being that close to history, and never seeing any of it, or being involved, totally clueless. I was as bad as younger US gays today who ask "What's Stonewall?" and "Why is gay pride always at the end of June?" icon_confused.gif

An attack in Chelsea and at the Stonewall? That guy was looking for trouble. Don't bring that crap to NYC, we're one the biggest gay mecca's in the nation and we won't stand for that. Glad to see the victim fought back and these idiots thrown in jail.

What's with women going to gaybars? Are they trying to get the bi guys?

'...He's already forgiven his attackers. "I would never give them the power to make me feel bad," he told the New York Post....'

I love him for that quote and I am glad he fought back.

A few of the women that talk to me at the bar said that they prefer to go to gay bars because they do not have to deal with ignorant straight meat heads hitting on them every 3 seconds. lol

It's good to see people fight back. There was one not to long ago where a young punk was trying to assault an old veteran on a city bus, but the vet got up and beat the crap out of the punk. There's a video on youtube.

If someone tried to jump me in a gay bar, or anywhere, I'd make them regret it, or do my best trying if i was overwhelmed. I have enough training to make a good stand, lol.

And that's the same reason many gay guys go to straight bars. icon_lol.gif

Strangely here in Philly the bars are rarely filled with many females. During the fall and spring you see a spike since these are "wedding" seasons, but other than that unless its a specific lesbian party event or a big event (outfest/pride/equality forum) its mostly gay guys.

Yeah, epic beard man... the dude deserved what he got, but the old dude was sort of a nut.

I'm big enough I don't have to worry about guys starting shit with me. Those two bitches would have got their asses kicked.

...and they were such big tough men that they went after the gay guy, two against one.

I'm thrilled that the gay guy fought back, that the goons were arrested, and charged with a hate crime.

Except that now straight guys know this and go to gay bars hoping to find women whose defenses are down.... then get self-righteous when guys hit on them!

Yes, I've seen that as well. Then, when the binge is completed, they have to start fights to show off their manhood.
