There it is, and I am pretty much sure on this one. I get real sick of hearing people say that 10% of the population is gay. C'mon, have you seen guys swoon over hot UFC guys?

I truly believe, and you can mark my words in 20 years or whenever a study shows more honest responses from men, that 50% of men would be interested in messing around with another man, and 30% are pretty sure they like it or want it and plan to do it. It is definitely not as low as 10%.

Well, I'm not sure about the accuracy of your statistics. 50% is pretty high, but I think you're kinda right.

10% is very low, and like I said in another post, I think that following the progressing acceptation of the LGBT community, and the "banalization" of homosexuality, this number is gonna grow drastically.

I always think it has to be higher than 10 % also, And even some studies try to put it down as low as 2 or 3! What the hell - seriously?

I was sitting in a lecture today and I am pretty sure I am mad crushing on this guy who sits right next to me. Except I can't give a look or anything because he is 'straight'. but how do i know.

I wish it was like 30 percent. That way I wouldnt feel so abnormal all the time.

In another way, 10% is not really bad.

    I mean, 10 people out of 100. It's kinda a lot.

I also think it depends of the place you're at !

As I understand the 10 % figure, thats men who are predominantly gay. I recall I think even the Kinsey report showed that a lot higher proportion of men had man-on-man sex at least once.

I don't think we'll ever know, but the Gallup poll from 2002 was surprising. When asked in a poll, Americans said 21% of men are gay icon_eek.gif and 22% of women are lesbians. icon_eek.gif

"In his 1948 book, Sexual Behavior in the Human Male, Alfred Kinsey shocked the world by announcing that 10% of the male population is gay. A 1993 Janus Report estimated that nine percent of men and five percent of women had more than "occasional" homosexual relationships. The 2000 U.S. Census Bureau found that homosexual couples constitute less than 1% of American households. The Family Research Report says "around 2-3% of men, and 2% of women, are homosexual or bisexual." The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force estimates three to eight percent of both sexes. So who's right -- what percentage of the population is homosexual?

It may be that no one will ever know for sure. To some people, homosexuality is a matter of perception and definition. Furthermore, many people have trouble admitting their homosexuality to themselves, much less to a researcher. But when Gallup asked Americans for their best estimate of the American gay and lesbian population, the results made all the figures mentioned above look conservative.

Every Fifth Person -- at Least

In August 2002*, Gallup asked Americans, in an open-ended format, to estimate the percentage of American men and the percentage of American women who are homosexual. The average estimates were that 21% of men are gay and 22% of women are lesbians. In fact, roughly a quarter of the public thinks more than 25% of men and 25% of women are homosexual. It should be pointed out, too, that many Americans (at least one in six) could not give an estimate.

Male respondents tend to give lower estimates of both the male and female homosexual population than female respondents do. The average estimates among male respondents are that 16% of men and 21% of women are homosexual. Among female respondents, the average estimates are that 26% of men and 23% of women are homosexual. Somewhat interestingly, both sexes believe there are more homosexuals in the opposite sex than in their own sex."

I don't disagree with the percentages of the OP but that fact that someone would be interested in messing around with another guy or would like it does necessarily mean you are gay/homosexual. I knew guys who I messed around with and they enjoyed it but don't identify themselves as a homosexual. I think that the 10% figure that is bandied about is low, perhaps 20% of the population identifies themselves as homosexual [sexually attracted to members of the same sex].

I think there's less than 30% of guys who are completely straight.
The rest either have some degree of bisexuality, and maybe 10-20% are completely gay.
I also think the original 30% may be adjusted slightly according to the amount of alcohol consumed.

Out of 100% of the male population, it breaks down something like this:

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/52/Kinsey_Scale.gif/800px-Kinsey_Scale.gif

According to his study, 63% of the male population is at the very least incidentally homosexual. The only problem with trying to quantify this in real life is that if a guy is attracted to women significantly more than he's attracted to guys, then he's more likely to just pass as being straight as compared to owning up to being bi. Same with guys who happen to be around the middle. For obvious reasons, the only guys who claim bisexual/homosexuality are those who are too close to the other side of the scale to be able to pass as being straight.

(And by pass as being straight, I don't mean mannerisms. Just that you can actually enjoy becoming romantically and intimately involved with a woman.)

    Definitive Irrefutable Answer below:

I called 9 male friends and here are the results:

11.1% are gay pure and simple
11.1% are practicing bi-sexuals (going both ways)
11.1% are bi-sexual identified but only practicing gay sex
11.1% are bi-sexual identified but only practicing hetero sex
22.2% are straight identified but haven't ruled a gay tryst
33.3% are straight pure and simple

There you go - let's get a hold of the National Institute for Health and the American Psychiatric Association, and New England Journal of Medicine and publish the data.

In Sexual Behavior in the Human Male (194icon_cool.gif the Kinsey team reported, as is now familiar, that 37 percent of their men had at least one gay experience to orgasm since puberty...

I also think the percentage of guys who are gay is low.

The numbers don't take into account closeted gay and bi men. My view is the majority of guys (some percentage over 50% of the total male world population) are gay or bisexual to varying degrees. Of that majority I would estimate around 25-30% are gay and 70-75% are bi.

No scientific ways to test this but that's what my instincts and evolutionary biology tell me. Human sexuality is more a scale of shades of grey rather than black and white.
