Does anyone use this, and if so is it just like manhunt?
Cause I'm not interested in THAT kind of thing.icon_rolleyes.gif
Grindr is so weird, convenient, and hilarious all at the same time. xD

Gross. It's used for insecure men that can't get laid any other way. Totally a turn a off.

ORLY? That's kind of a generalization.
I downloaded it out of curiosity: And I have average self esteem and could get laid if I wanted too. icon_neutral.gif

Actually, I kinda get a kick out of Grindr: I've yet to use it for a hookup, but am new to my area & have met a few locals.. Wouldn't mind a sexy guy to show me around town though icon_rolleyes.gificon_lol.gificon_biggrin.gif

It's not like Manhunt. Grindr is like a gay bar: walking in doesn't mean you're a slut, thought there's plenty of sluts in it. You can find a lot of decent people on it, and also hook-up. I've had plenty of hook-ups from it when I first joined, but lately I just use it to message some of my friends who live close by (within 2 miles). It's actually easier to do that then to think of their names, scroll to it, hit text, etc. But yeah other than that it's been a huge bore lately.

It's used for men in Los Angeles who are sick and tired of trying to hook up with people who live far away. And no one in Indiana uses it. So going on it would be useless for you since the nearest gay is in Chicago.

But how else would you know without the app? I mean it's great to know that you are only what 40-100 miles away from the nearest gay? ><

Personally I really see the app as just another way for people to hookup. Not my type of thing.

You're in a monogamous relationship. Of course it's not your type of thing. I'm just saying it's better than online websites. And less trashy.

Like most anything, Grindr is what you make it. Some guys are in there only for hook ups. Most, I would say, will go for the quick sex, but really are interested in more. Some really are strictly relationship-oriented. You just have to decide what you are and stick to it.

Are you speaking from experience? icon_wink.gif

I think GRINDR is a hoot....and I agree with Caslon, it's what you make it.

I know it's off-topic, but this remix/video nearly made me throw up I've been laughing so hard. A good one, Jake.

As for the topic, the above point that Grindr, or Encoutr for Android phones, is the same people doing the same stuff as ANY of the other websites. The believe otherwise is naive. As Calson points out, any of these experiences, what you get is what you put into it. If you want sex, that's what you'll get. If you want a boyfriend, you can probably find one after he wade through all the guys just looking for sex or dirty photos.

Really disappointed in the app, although it's a great concept. 90% of the guys on there are either 19 yr olds or 40+ yr old traveling insurance salesmen with a bad out-of-focus outdated pic. I get tons of "hey" from the 19 yr olds that really are not my type at all. The guys my age don't seem to want to have anything to do with me........it's just really weird.

Oh yeah, and most contacts will just write you one word sentences, like "hey".

10% of the guys are decent with a personality at least, but they are usually from out of town.

I downloaded it for fun, and to see if the "electronic gaydar" thing had any potential. Yeah, it's mostly for guys far younger than me. I did meet one guy though and we had a couple of nights out (only 28 miles away!) before he moved even farther away.

As expected, turning it on at home is a joke. Shows lots of guys 45 to 80 miles away who are looking for a hookup within walking distance.

Turned it on in the city a couple of times, and it's even funnier. Amazingly hot guy 23 feet away! ... 3.2 hours ago. WTF? As soon as Apple rolls out that Tardis feature in the iPhone23, it'll be useful for something.

I would use the app, but Iphone still is not useable in the Dutch Caribbean

PS it would prolly be the same locals on there I know in real life anyway.... but it could be useful to find tourists to host

THE thing I notice is you actually KNOW who most all the guys are, see them around or work near them. You know people they know etc.

HAHAHAHA, that reminds me of when I looked up some of the gay advertisements here on a gay site... and I got a response from a guy Ive seen and known for years, that is even on my facebook due to our mutual friends, but never talked to me very much.. then he responds to my add/response by sending me nude pics .. clearly not knowing its me

    WHAHAHAHAHAAAA

    PS

The same guy also hotisted me on RJ months ago and then stopped replying after I told him I thought I knew him... icon_lol.gif yock!

Plz It's no different than any other form of communication. It's hit or miss. You only know your intent on a quest for same, you will weed out the ones who you deem as losers deceptive cock-hounds and while it might take you time to zero in on the one you want it's no different than a bar a gym or a website. Another device to help you seek your chosen oneicon_biggrin.gif
