...running for President on the TEA Party ticket! icon_lol.gif

NEW YORK — New York's "Naked Cowboy" is looking for some new exposure as a presidential candidate.
Robert Burck is familiar to any Times Square tourist as the man standing in the heart of the "Crossroads of the World," playing a guitar and wearing only tighty-whiteys, boots and a cowboy hat.
But he wore a suit and tie Wednesday as he announced his intention to run for president in 2012 as a member of the conservative Tea Party movement.
He proclaimed he was running "in defense of individual liberty" and criticized President Barack Obama for the direction of the country.

"America is rapidly transforming into a government-run enterprise," the tourist attraction said, adding that "American politicians are selling out America and its most cherished institution, that being capitalism."
For the big announcement, the hat was off — perhaps symbolically tossed into the ring. Burck said he was registered as a Republican in Ohio.
Among his policy goals, he listed closing borders, requiring drug tests for welfare recipients, abolishing unions for government workers, and cutting capital gains and income taxes. He also said he would work to reverse the recently passed health care law.

    Is he serious?
He says yes. But this isn't his first flirtation with public office. He announced a mayoral run in 2009 and later dropped out.
His news conference attracted a throng of media, as well as curious onlookers. When it came time for questions, he was asked about his underwear choices and whether he was being dishonest because he wasn't actually naked when performing.
He declined to say what impact his presidential aspirations would have on his performances.
Cari Teff, 34, visiting from Monroe, Wis., had seen the Naked Cowboy in all his glory once before.
"I couldn't believe it," she said Wednesday. "I didn't know who it was at first."

I wish ppl would research policies instead of saying what sounds good now based off what's going on now. Closing boarders is gonna stir up racist claims and others r gonna view the country different because did the Indians close boarders off to the pilgrims, nope. I could go on give me a policyto better education and jobs

He's another showboating conservative career entertainer like Sarah Palin... Only he's doing a better job than she is because he tosses in the towel mid-election.

He mentions drug tests for welfare recipients. How about drug tests for all the other REAL welfare recipients in our country: the corporate types who treat the economy like a giant casino.

Obama was uncodified and untested and really only interested in being reelected, so why not give him the same chance?

I think we need real people to run for office. Maybe not the Naked Cowboy, but someone who isn't a career politician. Granted, I would like this person to be relatively smart, but I think people generally take the idea that a President needs to be "Qualified" too far. I'd settle for someone who has a strong "PLAN" and have their advisors and other staff make it happen.

This is old news lol. I thought it was funny, but then I decided to listen to him... I have to say he made more sense than any politician I've had to listen to so far. He did run for mayor, but then he dropped out of the race.

Then I was shocked that he's got a degree in political science, and his father's a career politician lol. He won't win, but it would be nice to hear somebody talk the sense he did... Never know though we live in some crazy times today lol.

He's socially moderate, slightly liberal.. Policy wise he is a conservative.. I like that.

I saw him announce it though before, it wasn't in such a serious forum. Though when he started stating his ideas I was like whoa.

He's now recently done it in a more serious manner. I'm looking for the vid now icon_smile.gif

When I read about his stance on drug testing welfare recipients, my reaction was, "facebook much?" icon_lol.gif

But seriously, my stance on that issue is that you can't single out any one group of people who receives government assistance, even loans. Should we drug test college student getting federal grants and loans. Should we drug test everyone who is to receive a rebate check? Small business loans? You just cannot single out one group of people like that. And why is it that we assume that welfare recipients are likely on drugs to warrant a drug test?? That seems kind of "elitist" and class-warfareish to me.

    LOL yea.

I do think though people on welfare do need to be encouraged more to get off it. I was watching a documentary about it, they were former welfare users. I don't look down on anyone who needs such assistance, some people need a hand up. But so many abuse it which cost so much. The former welfare users were actually talking about how they abused it, and all of them said it definitely did encourage them to not go out and look for work, it was interesting.

There will always be leaches in our society, whether their means be leaching through welfare or leaching through tax shelters/loopholes. People need to rise above and recognize that and not stigmatize the welfare system as a whole.

We don't close down banks when they get robbed. Why should we eliminate welfare because of low class thieves?

I was so pissed off this one time. A guy from my hometown was on welfare, living in the projects and driving a Bently. Really?

Meanwhile, a friend who was down on his luck and actually needed the assistance.....did not qualify!

The system needs a MAJOR overhaul.

Believe it or not, another famous NYC resident is likely going to put his hat in the 2012 Prez ring. Any guesses?
