Just watched Billy Elliott again. What a great movie. Jamie Bell has proven to be quite the actor.

Battle Royale. After you get through the first time adrenaline rush of how crazy the whole situation of a bunch of kids being pitted against each other, the second time you take notice of particular characters, and start better distinguishing them in the sea of Asian schoolboys/girls, and how they represent different aspects of humanity.

I believe Japan is the first post-apocalyptic nation on earth. The book and this movie just confirm that.

re: Battle Royale & post-apocalyptic Japan

The Japanese nation-state survived two nuclear bombs, so there is little reason to wonder why Japanese narrative culture has got post-apocalyptic life down to a T icon_razz.gif

As to movies worth watching again...The Lion King by Disney and The Hogfather (a BBC Christmas miniseries).

Yeps, the one by Terry "Creator of A'Tuin" Pratchett.

It's cute, Christmas'y, and subversive (yay Death icon_biggrin.gif). Death's voice actor does a nice job, reminiscent of Christopher Lee's work in Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters. And Susan is fun and irritated.
