And also says, "I just think my children and your children would be much better off and much more successful getting married and raising a family, and I don't want them brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option -- it isn't."

Well, we knew he was a racist and a sexist, so we were bound to find this out as well.

If he did some campaigning, and explained how he intends to fix NY state, he might make a better impression.

To his credit, he did say the standard disclaimer:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/10/carl-paladino-brainwashed-homosexuality-lifestyle_n_757460.htmlAnd don't misquote me as wanting to hurt homosexual people in any way; that would be a dastardly lie. My approach is live and let live.

And then he says the statement in the OP.
This coming from him who's against gay marriage and (probably gay adoption and DADT if he had the chance to say it).

It's like a Southern segregationalist who still uses the term "miscegenation" saying to a white crowd:
"And don't misquote me as wanting to hurt black people in any way; that would be a dastardly lie. My approach is live and let live. I just think my children and your children would be much better off and much more successful getting an education and being able to marry somebody who's white, and I don't want them brainwashed into thinking that being black is an equally valid and successful option -- it isn't."

Somebody on the huffpost site commented:
"I have nothing against gays! Really! I think they're all dysfunctional by definition, but that's their deal! You know, like show tunes!" icon_lol.gif

I hope New Yorkers don't vote this asshole into office. It would be terrible. Can't stand homophobes.

I saw that little speech... I rolled my eyes so hard I fell asleep! I can't believe that the people in the room applauded. I mean I know they are Hasidim but really!

Wow, no comments posted on this thread at all by the RJ right-wingers!
    I wonder why?
Surely they have a credible excuse for this a**hole's comments, don't they?

Fortunately, I don't think you need to worry about that. Unfortunately, there is plenty else to worry about.

No need to worry. He just kissed his chances for being elected goodbye.

FROM THE NY DAILY NEWS: In a version of the speech distributed by a rabbi, the rant went further, charging there is "nothing to be proud of in being a dysfunctional homosexual."

Well, I think there is nothing to be proud of in being a dysfunctional ANYTHING! Homosexuality and functionality aren't even in the same zip code!

Who can argue with a 50% divorce rate and higher instances of broken homes? icon_rolleyes.gif Straights hardly have the morality corner covered.

And yet another poor use, and choice, of words. I think that many of these men and women forget that their words, when misused, often lead to hatred and bigotry even IF that wasn't their original intent.

The guy is just scary -- kind of sad that Cuomo and Paladino are the choices New Yorkers have to choose from, but I hope Paladino doesn't get anywhere near the Governor's mansion. He just seems like a loose canon and a royal jerk. These comments hopefully sealed his fate, and he will lose handily.

I was shocked to see in the article that he has a homosexual working on his staff. What is that guy thinking?

Yet another example where you mistakenly assume that one politician speaks for a whole political party -- sorry, but they don't, and certainly not this nutcake Paladino.

I caught him on NPR last week and boy did he sound like a boorish lout. If he could have used profanity I seriously think he would have. The fact that he's a businessman and a newcomer to politics does not entitle him to speak him mind without some internal censoring first.

Don't worry, he won't be governor anytime soon.

I think this will be the end of politics for him.

yeah. I'd be curious to hear what Socal, SB and Mock think of this. They have been more than willing to carry water for Tea Baggers who are demonstrably racist, sexist and classist, and even Tea Baggers like Sharon Angle who are anti-gay, because she will be "better for the economy." icon_rolleyes.gif

I don't know. You know how some far right-wing nutcases can be when their anger and fears are stirred up into a frenzy. icon_rolleyes.gif

On this lovely Monday morning, I'm sitting in a coffee shop in a highly conservative upstate NY town and listening as patrons blast Paladino for this. This story made the front page of today's New York Post, which is sold at the counter.

Some of the comments I've heard:

"And to think I was going to vote for him...fucking jerk"
"...sounds like he's reverting back to his mafia roots"
"He even looks evil (you have to see the pic they chose for the front page to understand this comment)"
