There actually has been a thread done on this, with lots of great replies. Check it out, because I know I saw some other Sigma Chis that you could possible connect with.

Ryan...simple concept here...MontanaGuy wanted to know if:

a) There were other gay greeks (ie actual gay frat boys - not that much different than the ones you see on corbin fisher as well as gay fraternity men {like yours truly hehehe }

b) If the topic of being gay and being in a fraternity has been discussed before.

...the answer to both questions of his questions just so happen to be yes.

I am a SIGEP (SIGMA phi EPSILON) Monty (and the rest of you Gay Greek-azoids) - if you all wanted to know.

But back to you Ryan....why so confused?

Secret secrets are ones that only the members of the frat knows. It's unique to each frat/sorority, however over the years a lot of these secrets have been released. As of 2007 the Zete secrets were not publicly accessible through the internet or through conventional media.

from my undergrad thr grad yrs the frat system changed from about 33-50% same sex active to today where the majority of frats here secret secrets are the worst kept but best contained comment on same sexual activity...

Look guys 1 things the same, even for the str8test of the str8, very few guys, there is never enough release... so mutual jerks, sucks and to lesser extents fucks are now common place. As a senior KA advisor here at App, the general view that most guys are bi to sum extent prevails...

RyanReBoRn saidYou know what they say here in Crocker dorm... RENT A FRIEND : JOIN A FRAT!

This is my revised post on ur 'rent a friend' comment:

If you had bothered to read my previous statement the dues do immense community good here in Boone NC. The Greek/Fraternity/Sorority donated over $77,000 directly to community services, and apprx another $50K in donations by individuals thru work and fund-raiser.... Crop walk, Breast Cancter walks, etc the greeks all unite and sponsor teams.... so these are conservative numbers.

DUES TO FRATERNITY THAT YOU PAY OFTEN PAY FOR A PLETHORA OF COMMUNITY PROGRAMS.
Here in the mountains where pockets of extreme poverty is hidden yet prevalent, we are a large source of funding for social justice and relief, and community projects... ie rent a highway etc....

Do not make another ignorant remark..... it shows ur inability to ascertain facts, or ability to talk of which you know NOTHING.

By the way, in my campus Sigma Chi are really hot... But also a little homophobic... I think it's the only fraternity with no gay gays (open or... more discreet, as far as I've heard).

ZBT are the crazy drunk guys ^_^. But they are nice guys.

Sigma Nu are a little "ambiguous" xD. They are great, have lots of people in USG and different organizations, but some people mock at them because they look gay.

Hey, if you are still active, come to the gay & greek event in Chicago in November, it's gonna be great.

Please read the post a little farther up where some knob already said this. Not original thought and not at all correct. We also have philanthropies and do community service, so we do stuff outside of parties and debauchery. If you were never in one and don't have any questions for those of us who were, why bother posting in this thread? You're greatly outnumbered here.

Can you guys list your reasons for joining one? What you did in one? How have they helped you? Is your life better for it?

Below is my true assessment of the good and the bad of fraternities as it relates to being a gay member...in the end I do truly believe that being a member has very positively impacted my life and has made me a better person. I do want to say one thing though those people that believe that being in a fraternity is about taking showers with Football players and having sex with straight guys have watched one too many pornos.

Being a member of a fraternity myself Delta Upsilon and being a former Fraternity and Sorority advisor for a University, I will say this... fraternities are a microcosm of society. In fraternities there are good athletes and bad, there are rich guys and there are guys working three jobs to afford school and the dues that go with belonging to a fraternity, there are assholes who think very highly of themselves and there are men of high moral character that go out of their way to help others in need. Like the rest of society there are straight guys and there are gay guys in fraternities.

A recent article I read showed that there were 8-10% of the Male Fraternity population that self-identifies as gay anonymously; however a vast majority of these guys are deep in the closet because of fears of alienation and no longer being accepted by his social outlet. Even though if guys come out after they have been initiated into their chapter the vast majority of Fraternity guys seem to except their gay brothers (at least that has been what I have witnessed after working with Fraternities at two different Universities over the last 12 years and having numerous conversations with other Fraternity and Sorority Advisors across the country).

I won't go into all the psychoanalysis of coming out in a fraternity but fraternities are an amazing social organization that builds friendships, leadership skills, communication, bonds, and lifetime learning, while at the same time allows people to experience quite a social life which if not done in moderation can get out of control like anything else.

Fraternities are also hyper masculine which causes some gay members to hide in the closet or walk away from their chapters rather than face their brothers. I can not tell you the number of times I heard my brothers say "that’s so gay" or "Your so gay" unfortunately it takes a very strong gay guy to deal with that and still come out. Some people say why on earth would a gay guy subject himself to that kind of harassment the answer is acceptance, friendship, loyalty, connections, etc... (basically, the same reason a straight guy would join).

If you truly have an interest in finding out about the true lives of gay guys who are in fraternities then you will want to go the following link: http://www.lambda10.org/ Lambda 10 Project National Clearinghouse for LGBT Fraternity & Sorority Issues.

The greek system is an awesome source for social reasons, networking, politics, upholding grading standards, philantrophy, brotherhood & life long TRUE relationships.

Research the Greek System Alumni and you'll learn that majority of Fortune 500 execs, actors, actresses, singers, professional athletes, politicians from entry level to 92% of the US presidents, supreme court judges, etc... were part of the Greek Letter System.

PIKES! I <3 Pikes deep down. They were our rival Fraternity back in undergrad, but something always brought me to judicial meetings Saturday mornings at 8 (I have a funky feeling it was my crush)

Pikes have a nation-wide reputation for being date-rapers. 99% of claims are always campus rumors. Each social Fraternity has dealt with its shares of boo-boos. On every campus each Fraternity and Sorority fills a persona: Pretty boys, jocks, nice guys, marry-type, man-whores / sluts, sluts, sluts, prudes, fatties .

Also for Citizen, this is hardly elitism, this is mainly us being proud of our bonds in college and a simple reaction how most non-Greeks see us as having "bought our friends".

Your "elitism much" comments are baseless, annoying, and unfounded. You simply file pride for being Greek under elitism. Amazing how you haven't flooded the millions of thread on this board where gay men state their pride.

You're ignorant and also hypocritical calling us elitists and then you make the aforequarted comment.
