I wonder if our RJ friends who are professionals and small business owners in Europe feel this is as bad as these NYT interviews imply it is.

I've been living under a rock. Can you explain in a nut shell what's happening over there?

The same thing that's happening in the US.. Economy sucks, people are in debt, job layoffs, rampant consumerism.

The economic collapse is global. I noticed that over a year ago when my international sales plummeted.

There seems to be a race on whether Greece or Ireland will go bankrupt first, which will cause the big banks to have a major hissy-fit. And the Euro is worth about 1:40 USD, which is causing major probs with their exports to us, not to mention US tourism. They are also in a race to see which can offend radical or maybe even moderate Muslims the most with burka and mosque bans and general xenophobia. Somehow none of this makes me feel better about America though.

Some countries experience more general problems than others, such as Spain and other mediterranean countries. However, most entrepreneurs have experienced some major issues the last couple of years. Some notice a sort of recovery but not much. I haven't checked all videos but those I checked are rather correct.

well, Germany has been doing extremely well. We have the lowest unemployment rate in 2 decades. Actually, companies are already complaining that they cannot fill open positions with qualified workers. That's why there is a discussion now on immigration and where to recruit these workers. But that is another story. The growth rate in germany is considerably higher than what people expected a year ago.
On the other hand a lot of other european countries struggle a lot.
