I'll get it going with two:

Celine sings "Shook Me All Night Long"

And some folk group sings "Stairway to Heaven"

Celine just had a concert tonight here in Dubai. As expected she "worked the stage" like a "lizard's tail cut off from its body".

That did not come from me.

Ethel Merman released a disco album in the early 80s. Surely that must be nearly as weird as it gets.

There's no (shocka locka boom) business like show (shocka locka boom) business...

tori amos takes other artists' songs and makes them dark forays into philosophy just by changing the tempo, rhythm and intonation a little... her "you give love a bad name" (bon jovi) made me rethink everything i thought i knew about the world... j/k

her "father figure" is FLAWLESS... george michael would be proud

oh, and janet jackson doing rod stewart's "tonight's the night" on the velvet rope album is still oddly awkward for me today, even 11 years later

I can't seem to find it on youtube, but several years ago on Conan O'Brien, Don Ho did Sabotage(originally by the beastie boys). It was a very interesting moment

Cascada's cover of Savage Garden's Truly, Madly, Deeply. Still freaks me out.

    It could be this!

In 1970, when the good folks at the Lawrence Welk Show heard the new hit "One Toke Over The Line" by Brewer & Shipley, they thought it was a gospel song because the song refers to "sweet Jesus." Little did they know it's really about getting high!

Sit back and enjoy this stirring rendition...

I can think of a few. Devo covered the Rolling Stones (Satisfaction), Johnny Rivers (Secret Agent Man), and Jimi Hendrix (Are You Experienced?).

But the weirdest one of all time - during the 1968 presidential campaign there was a guy who imitated Bobby Kennedy singing the Troggs' "Wild Thing". It was a huge hit until Kennedy was assassinated - then they pulled it off the air out of respect. I haven't heard it since.

The Scissor Sisters did an almost unrecognizable and, in my opinion, horrendous version of "Comfortably Numb." That's got to rank up there, though maybe not in quite the same league of absurdity as some of the ones you guys have listed.

I don't have any vocal, but here's the album cover of "Mr. French" Sebastian Cabot performing Bob Dylan songs. I think this just proves that EVERYONE must've been on drugs during this period of our history.

Limp Bizkit covering "Faith" by George Michael.

Alien Ant Farm covered "Smooth Criminal" by Michael Jackson and it was bizarre, but I loved it!

Of course anything that Mrs. Miller covered is pretty bizarre!

Bran Van 3000's cover of "Cum on Feel the Noize."

I love it, though! I always like mashed-up music.

Linni Meister's cover of Destiny's Child's Survivor is pretty darn awful and noteable for how its attempts at playing on sex work render it less sexy than the original:

Didn't the Sex Pistols do "My Way" by Frank Sinatra?

"Superstar" the Carpenter classic was covered by Sonic Youth (featured in the movie Juno).

Studio 54 did a dance version of Gordon Lightfoot's classic ballad "If You Could Read My Mind".

Madonna did a truly criminal thing by covering Don McLean's "American Pie" (some songs should not be touched).

Tiffany's cover of The Beatles classic "I Saw Her Standing There" upset so many people her career went into an immediate and permanent nose dive.

Here are a few of my all time least favourite covers.

"All By Myself" by Celine Dion (original by Eric Carmen).

"Without You" by Mariah Carey (original by Nilsson).

"I'll Be There" by Mariah Carey (original by The Jackson Five).

As you can tell I am not a big Mariah Carey fan.icon_twisted.gif

Courtney Love doing Fleetwood Mac's Gold Dust Woman. And, the soundtrack to the movie Trick, has a dance version cover of the old 70's song called "Dream Weaver."
