for you younger guys here, she was the stay at home, surburban mother from the late 50's/early 60's tv sitcom "leave it to beaver".

for most of our childhood, my brother and I thought this character was copied from our own mother.

just like our mother, June Cleaver had the same: pleated shirts, high heeled shoes, fake pearl necklace, long armed white gloves, canister vacum cleaner, built in kitchen appliances...heck, she even drove my mom's car, a red '62 plymouth fury.

yes, generation X and Y guys, the early 60's were different than today.. icon_sad.gif

another part of my childhood gone. icon_cry.gif

    That's such a shame!

Oh Eddie was a hot cop later in life!

Gee Ward, don't you think you were a little hard on the Beaver last night!?

I am so sorry to hear this. I watched reruns of Leave it to Beaver growing up. It was on TV every day. My family life wasn't much, and my Mom and Dad were alcoholics and very harsh with me. Barbara Billingsley was like a second mom to me. I used to fantasize what it would be like to have her as a mom, and Hugh Beaumont as my dad.

She did live to be 95. I am glad that she had such a long and happy life. From everything I read about her, she was just like June Cleaver and everyone loved her

But this makes me so sad

eh..i guess i was darn lucky in my pre-puberty childhood.

my parents had a new house in the suburbs with the same built in kitchen appliances that June Cleaver used, mom looked, dressed and acted like June Cleaver, my mom was a "homeroom mother" who brought iced cupcakes to my grade school class on at 2 pm on fridays in the same '62 plymouth fury that the cleaver family had, i walked the 9 blocks to and from grade school with my brother.

i can still recall watching "leave it to beaver" with my brother and sister on my parent's prized 26 inch zenith console television (the model with the am/fm/multiplex radio on one side and the record player on the other side!), watching june cleaver vaccum HER house, wearing the same outfit and hair style our mother had, pulling the same canister style vaccum cleaner behind her, my brother and I looking a her on the "big" tv and back at our mother and pointing and giggling about their similarity......SO very long ago!! truly another era. icon_neutral.gif

Leave it To Beaver was and still is a classic stand alone. It made you warm, happy, and offered simple innocence as humor. Every kid could identify with one of the characters...here's the one's I remember, help me out if you know more:

    Larry Mundello: Beav's fat friend

Whitey: another of beav's friends, went on to become a producer/director

Clarence 'Lumpy' Rutherford: Wally's fat friend

Eddie Haskell: everyone loved or hated Eddie, the slimy, ass kissing 'well hello Mrs. Cleaver, my but you look lovely today' jerk....he later joined LAPD, was shot on duty and retired early.

And the only parents of the above we never saw, were Eddie's......a great show, and Barbara was a great Lady.....Keithicon_cool.gif

R.I.P. June Cleaver (Barbara Billingsley), and thank you very much for your example.

Last year I saw the first episodes on-line after not having seen any of the episodes for probably 40 years. It was like a time capsule- I immediately remembered those episodes from when I was a kid! Something about it, and I had to stop watching.
