Actually, did you notice how he tried to hedge his bets? He said there is birth factor involved, like alcoholism, but then you choose it.

Being gay is definitely not a choice and this republican by the alias of Ken Buck needs to be educated of the proven facts.

Actually he's right inadvertently: there are some studies linking alcoholism and genetics. So there: it's not a choice. Unless you remove all alcohol and all people of the same sex around you!icon_razz.gif

Or is it more that conservatism is a set of neuroses rooted in “fear and aggression, dogmatism and the intolerance of ambiguity”?

http://reason.com/archives/2004/10/20/pathologizing-conservatismAnother panelist, Charles Anthony Smith, a lawyer and Ph.D candidate in political science at the University of California at San Diego, explored evolutionary biology explanations for how these unsavory RWAs [Right Wing Authoritarians] arose in our midst. In his talk, "Law, Leadership, and Lords: Machiavellian Intelligence and the Role of Obedience in Collective Action," Smith suggested that the propensity to obey would be adaptive in either attacking or defending groups. Those groups which could more quickly be organized to defend themselves would be more likely to survive. A deliberative outlook under such circumstances would be an evolutionary disadvantage. Smith believes that this evolutionary tendency toward obedience can explain a host of behaviors, including the initial rise of theocracies in which leaders manipulated the propensity to obey by claiming that the gods had given them the divine right to rule.
    ...
They find that on average, about 60 percent of the individual differences that we observe in scores on a version of the Wilson-Patterson Conservatism Scale (WPC) are attributable to genetic individual differences.
    ...
Whether it be an unfortunate evolutionary holdover or a mental disease transmitted by our parents—the science is apparently still up in the air—academic researchers have surely amassed enough evidence of psychopathology that conservatism can listed in the next edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Reasonable people, such as the distinguished academic researchers cited here, will no doubt agree that until effective treatments can be developed, we should reconsider whether sufferers of conservatism, like other mental defectives, should be allowed freely to exercise the franchise.

So there, you're right, Republicanism is genetic, and should be listed in DSM-V, at the very least as a personality disorder. [j/k]icon_twisted.gif

OK, I'll have to keep trying, I guess. But you guys are a pretty serious crowd. Probably as hard as getting the old Soviet Politburo members to smile.

The problem isn't that we lack the ability to "smile".
The problem is that your jokes are not only not funny - they're right-wing attacks that do nothing but add to the political divide.

It seems like it's becoming a trend that Republicans talk down everything gay. Kinda like they're pissed we're not in the center issues of recent elections.

    LOl.
Yeah, they miss the good old days when campaigning as a "family values" (AKA anti-gay) candidate could score them a whole bunch of votes.
Now that gays are becoming more and more accepted, they have to show respect to gay Americans in order to avoid losing votes.
Unlike the good old days when they could gain votes by dissing us.

You recently started a humor thread in which you bashed Dems. Now you are trying to be funny by calling me stupid.

I don't know why you would think that after going after Dems you would think that making fun of them would get laughs all around. I don't know why you think that you and I are so friendly that you can call me stupid as a joke.

But we are not yet friendly like that. Either you don't understand humor terribly well or you are just being an asshole and hiding behind "aw shucks guys, I am just having a laugh with you". I want to believe that you are just being friendly and trying to inject some levity onto this site but I really have no reason to believe that.

So, until we are friendly please refrain from calling me stupid.

Actually, Zombie made a joke. You dumped a giant turd on the thread with your pathetic attempt at humor. The only (intentionally) funny conservative was the guy who wrote "Airplane."

What is a joke and what is a turd is all a matter of perspective. Do you understand that?

    LOL
I guess you right-wingers think what's funny is in the eye of the beholder - in the same way that you think the truth and history are a matter of opinion rather than facts.

    Right-wingers are notoriously humor-challenged.

Remember this half-assed attempt by FOX "News" to counter Jon Stewart and TDS?

    Erm... no...

The closest thing that he's talking about is Skittles Vodka. Definitely not homosexuality/bisexuality.

    vodka.jpg

That probably didn't make sense, but it's worth derailing a political thread to say that skittles vodka is the shit and that this is my 69th post. icon_twisted.gif

    This looks horribly appealing.
