Im thinking about heading into NYC next weekend and was wondering what and where the good gay bars/clubs are? Are there any places I should stay away from?

    Thank you!

please just don't go to Posh!! It is nasty!!

Go to Therapy, The Ritz, if you are here sunday you could try Hiro or Greenhouse.

    Have fun!!

My God there are just so many good ones.

Christopher Street is an older crowd, and Chelsea is younger.

My favorite area is Hell's Kitchen -- Ritz, Vlada, Therapy, Bartini and Posh are all good places to try almost any night. In Chelsea -- Splash is great on Thurs. and Sat. I also like XES (near Splash) and especially Barracuda. G-bar is good some nights too. Gym bar and Boxers are worth checking out if you want a "masculine" sports bar atmosphere. The Lower East Side can be nice too for dive-ier bars and a more alternative crowd... Boiler Room ($3.50 drinks), Eastern Bloc, Pieces and Phoenix. Stop into Stonewall and Duplex in the West Village if you want a taste of gay history (older crowd though). I find HK the youngest, but Chelsea is ok too.

If you want hardcore dance and a very clubby atmosphere, Club 57 is the place on Sat.; high cover and expensive drinks though. Rock It (now at Quo in Chelsea) is also a dance club standard. If you want an 18+ club on Sat., Rush is your only choice, although be warned it gets very crowded (and -very- young). And for Sunday, Hiro and Greenhouse are the most popular, although a bit clubby and crowded for me.

Try a few places if you can, and have a blast!

This won't be any help this weekend but have NY'ers heard about the new "Gay resort" planned for the west side? A reincarnation of XL run by John Blair (who has disassociated himself from Splash) along with a hotel, gym and spa.

And in case you were worried, they will offer botox!

I was just visiting NYC this past weekend, and we went to Barracuda (very crowded), G-Bar (more relaxed but not many people), and Marie's Crisis. My personal favorite was Marie's, but that's because it's a gay piano bar that plays only showtunes. The whole bar would sing along and it was soooo much fun!

You asked a very personal subjective question. How can people validly answer to your satisfaction without you giving your specifications in your query?

If you're into things scuzzy, you could try the Urge or Cock which are next to each other on lower Second Ave. Watch your wallet and don't be surprised if your shoes stick to the floor. You definitely won't be in Kansas anymore.

Since This RealJock forum, I would say go to GYM BAR and the new one called Boxers Both are sports bars. Happy Hours at Boxers is great too
