In Remembrance Of One Of Our Own...

I just heard yesterday that one of our fellow RJers passed away. Screen name AUSTRALIANTUSK, real name of Carlos. Having had the pleasure of many, many chats with Carlos (or Tusky), I am deeply saddened and realize that virtual friendships are indeed friendships (because the feelings I have now and the tears I have shed are very real). I would like to share with you why he was a special guy and invite those of you that knew him to share as well...in his honor.

Carlos was a regular in the chat room. In fact, you could say he lit up the room when he was there. He was handsome and tan but his personality is what made him truly special. It was fun just to watch him on cam as he chatted because he was always smiling and laughing and you couldn't help but feel happier in his presence.

He was not out to many so the friends of RJ had become his community. A place where he could explore his feelings and connect with guys who were like him. I am honored that I shared some fun and serious moments with him and got a chance to know such a good soul. Rest in peace my friend. We will miss you.

While I value friends online just as much as friends in person, please forgive my skepticism. I've witness a number of online death hoaxes, and they were pulled off VERY well...until a few weeks later when the "dead" person got back online and never even knew the hoax had been played.

So, without more information, all I can say is *hugs* and I hope this is just another hoax.

I heard that his death may have been caused by an aneurysm. Definitely a life taken too soon.

This makes me very sad...even though I didn't know him... I have a few friends on here that I worry about.

I don't think I knew him. Do you have a pic of him? How old was he? Had he been ill??

As far as the "hoax" possibility Paul, I heard it was confirmed on facebook and with some online obituaries. This is all "heresay" for me but I'm going on what I've been told by others. I wish it was a hoax, but I don't believe it is.

Carlos was a really great guy to chat with online, and I was fortunate enough to get to know him in person. He was such a fun loving guy!! He was not out but he was trying to come to terms with himself. He was so much fun to talk to and joke with. I remember one night about two months ago, he and I got online under his screen name, and everyone kept asking what I was doing on there. He and I had decided to mess with everyone and just chat with them from his house. We had a blast!! I think that we were being called Green Tusk by the end of the night!! He wasn't really Australian, but he loved Australia and the surf there. He kept a beautiful picture of the waves on his wall in the front walkway of his house. It was amazing just like he was!! I feel like I have lost two brothers a year apart just days away from one another. Both Todd And Carlos were big surfers and that was part of my connection to Carlos! Here's to you, Australiantusk!! You are with my other brother, Todd!! Love You, Man!! Joey A.K.A. Green

I read this morning from a message from Jimjock that he passed. I didn't really know how to react because it didn't seem real. I had just joked around with him not two days ago... icon_cry.gif

Thanks for the nice tribute Ironman. Thanks for stepping up and doing it!

"Missed in the chat lately, chat aint the same without you.Its so much more fun when you're there other than ur good looks you have a great personality."

The quote above was an email Tusky sent me when I was away for a while. It's sort of ironic, but it's exactly how I feel about him. The only difference is that he won't be coming back.

I always enjoyed chatting him up and hearing his crazy stories. I'm going to miss the chat about the tropical fish, his great healthy cooking skills, his getting in trouble for running around the neighbors naked (oop!) and his sort of figuring out the guy thing.

I'm sorely going to miss my online chat brother and his smiling face and laughter. That's is what I will remember most. You will be missed Carlos but remembered with a smile.

    RIP my gentle souled brother!

I knew him as Tusk, not Carlos.
Always wearing the board shorts and smiling. A funny guy whom I very much enjoyed chatting with. I Will miss him.

The obit says he was 34. That's still way too young.

Ironman4U saidAs far as the "hoax" possibility Paul, I heard it was confirmed on facebook and with some online obituaries. This is all "heresay" for me but I'm going on what I've been told by others. I wish it was a hoax, but I don't believe it is.

I've known online hoaxes where the "deceased" was the perpetrator, returning under a new screen name & profile to announce his own demise. For these reasons, when my late partner died and I wanted to notify his online friends I included links to his official obituary in the newspaper, and to the funeral home which archived the obits online, with photo. Also info about the upcoming memorial service, and the florist shop doing the flowers. As a result many sent me cards, and floral arrangements, and a few attended in person, none having doubts about the truth of his death.

So my question is what are these "online obituaries" and can you link them? Are they official & reliable? It's unfortunate the issue must be raised, but as Paul suggests the online world is rife with fraud, rumors and bad information.

Ok guys, several people have posted links to the obituary notice in the paper. I think we can let go of the "hoax" theory and just move on to pay respects to a kind and caring man.

Never had a conversation with him, but then I don't head to the chat room either.

Regardless, very sorry to hear he had such an untimely passing. My thoughts are certainly directed his way today. I hope he had a happy time here in this world. Very sad and sorry to hear it.
