Charlie Crist's endorsement of McCain just before the Florida primary and his campaign to get his state's democratic delegates counted have brought him into the national limelight as a potential candidate for VP. He's a 52-year old, handsome, single (divorced), childless, well dressed, very tan, Republican from Florida...

Gay attached to something won't be enough to get me to vote or even have favor towards someone/something. Not implying that you would Starboard. But Charlie's stats thus far a kind of iffy, but unless he comes out as gay and represents more than a few things that I believe in, than I'll concider him if he's on a ballot.

Crist's sexual orientation isn't much of a secret. A local weekly outed him during the last election cycle. His boyfriend at the time (still?) was another GOP operative who was attached to the campaign of loonybin Senate candidate Katherine Harris. Of Secretary of State fame, only she has gone much, much crazier since 2000. Her Senate campaign was hilarious.

    From the Huffington Post:

"Like John McCain, Charlie Crist is a traditional values kind of guy. During the 2006 campaign season, he told groups of voters, by way of targeted recorded phone calls, that, "I support a constitutional amendment to protect traditional marriages, and I oppose adoption by gay couples." Crist has backtracked on the constitutional amendment issue; "I'm just a live and let live kind of guy," he now says."

    He's very gay.

It's one of the worst-kept secrets in Pinellas County, FL where he used to be a big mover and shaker in the school system.

How do I know this? I live in Pinellas County and have family in the public school system.

Another in the closet, gay-hating homosexual Republican. They're coming out of the woodwork. He must have an account on www.gaypatriot.org.

Don't fool yourself, RealLifeDad...lots of gay Republicans out there who don't buy into the ridiculous notion that "Republicans hate gays". McCain gets my vote for a variety of reasons, and not a single one of them has even the slightest thing to do with gay anything.

Fascinates me that words like "tolerance", "diversity", "acceptance", "free speech" and other traditionally liberal buzzwords are chucked on the trash heap when they have to do with McCain ads on RealJock. Part of the RealJock allure (at least to me) is that it helps break down stereotypes--even among gay folks.

To say something like "DUH !!! McCain should know we gay aren't going vote for him over a Democrat !!" strikes me as a comment that attempts to paint us all with one political brush.

I live in FL, and as jprichva said earlier, I seem to recall a small local newspaper more or less "outing" Crist during his election campaign. About the same time, the Libertarian candidate for Governor -- who had been friends with Crist for decades -- brought this up, rather casually, in a radio interview. It never got much traction in the media --not that it necessarily should. (But I don't think this will be the case should Crist get the VP nod. It won't be ignored.)

It did, however, put Crist in the position of answering the question. So he did, at a campaign reception, where he "announced" he wasn't gay. (And the applause that followed sounded stupid, at least to me.)

Whenever a question re: gay rights came up, Crist typically said he was a "live and let live" sort of guy.

who cares? That is not a reason to vote for him.
So all the woman should vote for hillary and all the blacks for obama?

McCain is just another "BUSH" in no matter how you slice it .....and this country does not need that

Since when do you guys speak for all of us? I'm voting for Senator McCain. Unlike most of you, I'm a vet and an old cold warrior and the Democrats did everything they could to lose to the Soviet Union.
I will always oppose the Democrats.

If McCain is serious about implementing the Fair Value Tax and abolishing income taxes, he's got my vote right there.

I think that he's gay but that doesn't really matter
    He's still a republican
The republican powers that be will NOT have ANY perceived moderate be the running mate of John McSame
They need to quiet the extreme right and the evangelicals
so mark my words McSame's running mate is def gonna be a fire breathing gun lovin', gay hating, bible thumpin' republican from the Lamd-o-Dixie

The homocons are coming out of the woodwork on RJ too.

Once again I'll say that while Democrats are no friends of gays, Republicans are outright enemies of gays.

By all means, please vote for someone who would recriminalize your life if he or she could. I know low taxes are way more important than equality under the law and you can always live your life in the closet and have sex in the public bathrooms.

They're accepting applications on www.gaypatriot.org too.

dfrw, "Republicans are outright enemies of gays", that's not true at all. You really don't know much about the Republican party do ya?
While the Democratic party is fragmented between hundreds of factions, the Republican party is only fragmented three ways, I call them the Christian Taliban (smallest contingent), the Super Entrepreneurs, and the largest contingent, the Super Patriots. In order to counter the Democrats, unity between all three is essential. So we have to show some loyalty to the Christian Taliban even though we loath it.
So here's an idea for you, boost the membership of the Log Cabin Republicans. It's a numbers game. If the Republican party doesn't need the Christian Taliban anymore ... well you see what I mean. Come on over to the party that has it's act together.

Well McCain could do far worse than Mr. Crist. Hopefully he will not pick Huckabee (I think that is unlikely), he may hold his nose and pick Mitt Romney (supposedly they dislike each other).

Latest polls indicate that John McCain has a slight lead over both Obama and Clinton. I still think he is going to win in November. The USA skews to the conservative side of things, and as long as none of the Bushies are around Americans may still vote Republican. The fact that Iraq is not much in the news these days does not hurt either.

Crist is not as much of a proxy of Satan as most Republicans, and that's about the nicest thing I can say about him. McCain won't go near him - the rumors about his sexuality are too well known, and too well founded. He is radioactive to a Rebublican ticket.
