I'm doing the new workouts on this site, which seem to be working well for getting stronger, but I also want to gain about 10 pounds - of muscle, not fat (fat is easy). I've always maxed my healthy weight out at 180, would love to get to 190.

Any recommendations on eating plans that might help? I do a lot of cardio (cycling), so I'm wondering if it's even possible to gain weight while doing that, or if I need to cut back.

One thing I've changed recently that has helped me gain weight is to eat ASAP after lifting. Right after I get done lifting (or doing cardio on non-lifting days), I take creatine. Less than 10 minutes after that, I take in as much protein and carbs as possible.

Right now, I take 3 scoops of Muscle Milk in water (mix it with milk and you'll have gas so bad that you won't get laid for a year or two), a big ol wheat bagel and a banana.

Between 60 and 90 minutes after that, I eat again. Another big meal, one beef hamburger and one veggie burger plus some raw carrots and celery. I am a naturally skinny guy, so I need to eat lots of calories to add weight.

But the timing has been key. Stuff in as much as you can as soon as possible after you work out.

That last post is right on the mark. Right after training you have a 20 minute window of opportunity to eat to restore spent glycogen in the muscles and get those nutrients into the muscle for growth.

And another thing.......if you are hoping to put on ONLY muscle in your weight gain endeavors, I hate to tell you that the price of admission to weight gain will be a little fat gain. But fear not, that is what cardio is for. I can bulk up 20-30 pounds at a time, and I know that there will be some fat gain, but then I kick up the cardio and modify the diet and BAM! ready for the stage....

    Good Luck!

Trust me there is no fast way to add pure muscle. Without anabolics the average body can only gain 10 to 20 lbs. of muscle with a year and even that is uncommon if you have been working out for several years. If it comes fast it is most likely going to be fat.

Take this advice. Worry about looks and not weight. You want to look like you weight more than you actually do and that means peak out your muscles and keep them sharp. I learned the hard way so stick with making quality gains and you will be happy with the results.

An old marine method was to do heavy Squats at the highest weight you can possible lift and the most reps u can do in a set. This causes a whole body hormonal reaction. Eat before and after working out. I have seen this method turned skinny h.s.recruits into beefy guys in a month or two. The squats really make you want to eat .

True, Sephchek, I forgot about that....

    SQUATS!

Heavy intense training, and definitely LEGS! So many guys either siply do not work legs, or if they do they do not work them with the intensity that they should to get the body to trigger hormonal growth. The legs and back are two biggest muscle gropus on the body, but most focus on the pecs, bis and abs, the "BEACH" muscles....
