    Town/City wise?

Ok, so I am in Hawaii and I woke up at 4am because I am still on PST. It was still pitch black outside and I didn't want to just lay around so I went for a jog on the beach hoping to catch the sunrise. That didn't happen because the sun didn't coming up until 6am and I was tired of jogging after an hour. Also, it occurred to me as I was jogging that it would come up on the other side of the island and I wouldn't be able to see it anyways.

During my job, I saw tons of homeless bums sleeping near trees and on the beach while on my jog. It made me think "wow they must have it good" since the weather is usually nice here. They have it better than lets say SF bums. They probably are successful at soliciting money since the island is filled with tourist. I would certainty get a ticket to fly to hawaii to be a homeless bum if I had to be one.

If you were a homeless bum which city would you live in and why?

Think homeless individuals are called "humans" ;-). They had homes at some point and have/had brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers. The fact that America has a homeless epidemic saddens me to no end. From our state capital of Sacramento California to as you pointed out the picturesque beaches of Hawaii we have homeless men, women and children human beings

Our homeless challenge stems from psychological issues along with at times society failure to educate, recognize and acknowledge our fellow human beings.

Just my opinion on our fellow humans

San Francisco has more free food, free shelter, free medical care, free rehab, etc. than any other city in the country. And, it never snows, here. It's a hobo's paradise.

But, I'd kill myself before I'd become homeless.
I need the comforts of home.

    Beautifully said.
Sometimes I wonder what happened in that person's life to put them where they are today: ragged, dirty, and homeless.

I'd stay down here. The weather is suitable for sleeping outside most of the year, there are showers along the beaches, people are generous with money (at least to the homeless who aren't assholes), and well...there are beaches. icon_biggrin.gif

I think the best place to live if you are homeless, could work but don't want to, is none other than the Peoples Republic of Santa Monica (CA). Mild weather, beachfront accommodations, a city council and activist population that want you to have all the comforts of home.

Disclaimer: This topic was created when I was bored out of my mind waiting for my friends to get up. I do not promote nor support the degrading of homeless humans. I have made monetary and non-monetary contributions to numerous homeless charities. I will edit my post to specifically refer to only those homeless humans who are truly bums (defined below), if requested.

    bum:
a : one who sponges off others and avoids work b : one who performs a function poorly c : one whose time is devoted to a recreational activity

With that said, don't derail my thread!!

If had the means to do so, of course I would want to go to someplace warm like California or Florida. But homeless people do not often have the means to get across country. If I was stuck here in Detroit are I would make my way to Ann Arbor. The liberal city has a lot of social services for the poor and is generous. They also do not often break up the homeless tent camps that have sprung up outside of town. You gotta go where it easier to survive.

I would be getting the hell out of Edmonton!!!

Steal a bike in the summer and just keep heading west until I hit the coast. Most of all, I just never want to think of myself ending up in that predicament.

Climbing up from the bottom would be a nightmare since most people ignore those without money and migrate around those that do.
