One valid topic here is not knowing when some hot guy is really gay, and relying on the so called Gaydar system can be problematic.

the so called straight acting gays are very hard to pick out, and I realized that. I do want other gay men to know I'm on the team and ready to play....so how do you tell without waving a 3x5 rainbow flag?

I just bought a very tasteful silver ring embedded with rainbow colored stones that I now wear, if i can remember, when I go out. I also have a small choker necklace with the two entwined male symbols and a pinky ring of the same. One enameled rainbow ring finishes off when I want to do some work and am not worried about a few scratches. So i have some very subtle signs that I can wear to suit any occasion, without having to be too obvious.

What about you guys, any other ways you send out 'gay waves'? .....Keithicon_cool.gif

If I'm going to a straight party/bar but I want to advertise, I usually where a shirt that says 'gay? fine by me.' on it. They gave them out every year on campus, so I now have three in different colors, lol. On campus everyone has these shirts, straight or gay, but off campus I think it's a pretty good indicator.

I... um, I'm not sure a necklace with a double man sign really fits my definition of "subtle".
Of course, subtlety may be overrated, so more power to you.
As for me... um, I don't think I either know of a good way to detect or display. Every now and then I wonder about person X. Oft times I'm wrong though, or at least it's later clear they're not out.

You're good with all the jewelry hints. I miss gay and bi guys all the time, then they follow me home. Those jewelry thing, I'd be following you, if you are hot persian guy. Maybe that's the other thing to talk about. How hot are you really?

obviously not that hot that guys are following me home. If the jewellery thing doesn't work I'm off to the ad agency,,,perhaps a sandwich board. To the poster that didn't think a necklace was subtle, it's not supposed to be to subtle to a gay guy, and 99% of straights have no idea what it is, it's just small, not the size of a stop sign.

I showed my rainbow ring to my new girlfriend/exwife. She thought it was beautiful but confirmed that the av. straight would have no idea it was a pride ring.

I think that specifically making the effort to send out gay vibes isn't necessary, at least not in the city that I live in. A horny guy's eyes are hard-wired and initiate the process for him. The important thing is to show your interest for someone you think is hott and are interested in forming some kind of contact with (including social contact of course). From my experience If I'm attracted to someone I'll look at him, size him up visually (without being vulgar), seem friendly but not overly so, so that he sees that I have at least some interest. If he's not interested (gay or straight) either he won't show any interest, or will show clear disinterest, and case closed. (It takes two for a friendship and no point pursuing it otherwise.) Sometimes in the street, subway, and stores I come across a hott guy and either he responds favorably to my glances or he himself initiates. When guys are out, open, and interested (at least initially) that often leads to mutual turning around for another look, nice genuine smiles, simple conversations, or changing seats on a train/ getting off at an unplanned station. It's really the same at a gay bar, some people show an interest, some don't. I've come to the conclusion that it's best that way- one should never be wasting time with the wrong person.

My coworkers tell all the newbies I'm gay before I ever get a chance to speak up. Then they defend my honor and bash/fire the newb if he or she has a problem with it. It's happened a few times. They were also quick to let me know that our latest newb is also gay. The ratio of gay/straight at work is quickly becoming 50/50...kinda cool actually. icon_wink.gif
