First, let me say again how much I appreciate the concern and continued good wishes as I have recovered from this serious (and odd) health issue.
You guys are really awesome. Your good wishes blew me away a month ago as I prepared to leave the hospital:

I've had enough ask me how I'm doing, so I thought I'd give one update and hopefully things will be back to normal in the next couple of months.

Quick overview: In mid September, I had a small swelling on my arm and I started feeling poorly and in two days went to a point where I was pretty disoriented. Went to the doctor on the Friday after the Tuesday when I first had symptoms. I went to the hospital, where I stayed for 10 days. It was pretty surreal considering I've never been seriously ill and my only hospital experience as a patient occurred when I was 6 when I got my tonsils out.
My arm doubled in size, my hand looked like a boxing glove. I ended up having surgery on my arm and 3 subsequent "procedures". My arm really never hurt, but it was what it did to me otherwise. I was told that it was "staph like" and they finally cultured out what they think was the original cause. It could have come from something as simple as my bloody scape on the hedgerow in my yard when I was mowing the previous weekend. It was not "meersa" from the gym and it wasn't any "flesh eating" bacteria. They checked me for everything. I even got an HIV test.
Everything negative. The doctors still tell me how lucky I am, considering the damage was "only skin deep" so to speak and never affected my muscles. If you don't think your exercise and fitness doesn't help even in this case, think again. They told me my physical condition went a long way in making this a less serious situation.... plus I got my butt to the doctor.
People with Staph lose arms and some die if they don't seek medical attention. I've also been stunned at how many people get this stuff.
If you get a cut, don't be a dummy like I was.... treat it and be quick about it.

I've been home 4 weeks today, its been a "slow, but sure process". My arm is still bandaged as one of the openings is still healing. The first week was rough. I could hardly walk and didn't want to eat much. I'm amazed how antibiotics and anesthesia affect your taste buds. It was only this last week things began to get back to normal. I had daily butt shots and antibiotics for 2 weeks... I take nothing now.

As far as exercise, I started back with cardio 2 weeks ago. The only frustration I've had was my first set of push ups. I was so weak and I felt like lead. Since then I've responded.. SO well I really can't believe it. Back up to 3 sets of push ups and about 4/5 of what I did before the illness. I've lost 15 pounds (its almost kind of funny, but I was so frustrated at how I looked after the hospital stay.... I'm responding, I'm thrilled and excited.
I'm back doing partials at the gym... I'm happy there too. Give me 2 months.

The only bad thing is I've retained a small portion of the infection and my elbow is still red and swollen a bit.. My surgeon told me I have to go back this Friday and have yet another procedure. I hate the whole idea... I'll be put out again and incisions made, but there isn't much choice. I hope this is finally it and this whole episode will be history.

Again, thanks to so many of you, some I haven't talked to very much before this incident...for your support. You guys are really awesome. Just remember, this can happen to anybody.... anyone! Be smart and be well. Thanks again.

The only thing worse than a procedure at a hospital is being told you have to arrive 2 hours in advance... what for?? I laid there in a bed in the prep room for an hour and was bored out of my mind... LOL

They have you lay there for so long because they have a hidden camera in there and the nurses are enjoying themselves watching you lay there in a state of undress from the nurses station.

    Glad you are feeling better.
