I'm interested, and I agree. I train combat goju which includes a full range of techniques and which is taught by a guy who does doors/security. That engaging with kara-te as a combat system is key. Indeed there is an element of stepping into the dark side about kara-te which is key. I feel it whenever I start sanchin.

P.U.N.C.T.U.A.T.IO.N. is gud dont ya no?

Ok sorry... bud that was kinda hard to read.

Also, I did competitive sparring and forms in both Karate and Tae Kwon Do for 7 years, don't try to tell me that its not a sport. If you look at virtually every modern sport it has roots to more practical things (javelin = spear throwing i.e.)

So origins and what it actually is today does not have to be the same. Are the Okinawans defending against samurai swords today? No? OK then, why is Karate still around then? AS A SPORT

Karate is more of a spiritual journey in relationship with the body. It is a purge of the evil inside through a clean and clear mind to be able to process the knowledge acquired during the spiritual journey. Its consistent to open and disciplined moves with the elbows, arms, involving punching and kicking among other stuff, using an open hand technique to major vital points.
My dad was a martial arts instructor. He used to be into Kung Fu.
