Interesting article. It's true that attitudes towards homosexuality are changing here very, very quickly.
Just yesterday I asked one of my students what she thought about homosexuality. She said, "I don't support it, nor do I oppose it. There's nothing good about it but there's nothing bad about it, either." I think that sums up how a lot of Chinese feel about homosexuality. Chinese men don't often come out to everyone they know, especially at work, etc., so most Chinese people don't know out gay people. Moreover, the gay subculture here is so hidden that if you don't know about it, you overlook it entirely. It is there, though, and more people are hearing about it. It's a shame Beijing doesn't have a pride event like the one in Shanghai. There was a pride celebration on a Saturday last spring but it was very poorly advertised and it was only advertised in English.
I'm going to start following Mama Wu's blog, though, I think it'll be an interesting way to keep abreast of developments for gays here.
