So I was talking to my friend about dating and stuff and we got to talking about online dating sites. Neither of us have really been on them although it'd be a different experience for either of us (she's straight) but were curious about if they'd be worth it or not, especially the ones that you have to pay for.

Anyone have any experience with any of these sites? Any sites better than others? Just curious to see if anyone has any insight into them.

I haven't found much luck. The guys on the legit dating sites tend to not be my type and the other sites like Manhunt are more geared toward hookups. Once in awhile you'll find a guy on Manhunt just looking to date or for friends though.

If there are guys on here from your area it's probably a better bet.

I was also under the impression this site was used for dating. You know, besides workout sharing, body flaunting, web-camming and other general internet-based interpersonal hysteria.

I tried OkCupid, and I liked some things about it and met a few interesting people, but found there weren't enough "healthy lifestyle" type guys in my area. Now that I'm on here I see plenty of active, sexy men... many with personality disorders.

    Sigh.

Meeting men online is just extremely conducive to hooking up, even if both guys swear up and down that's not what they're looking for. And hey they could be totally honest about it. But it's just really conducive to a hookup.

I haven't had any luck over the years. I realized the common denominator in all this is myself. I've given in to the reality I am completely utterly tragically undatable. I think I'm going to stop going to the gym, buy a fleshlight and adopt some more cats.

I was on two and there was a very visible overlap with people on both sites, with some on this site too actually. After a two year hiatus I rejoined one of them for a couple months. Lots of the same profiles were still up (some without picture changes in three years!).
My experience was not very positive and doubt that I would (re)join another one. Relatively few dates came of it compared with the effort and emails I sent out. This was rather shocking since it was for the database of men from the NYC region (+50 miles distance). None of the dates lead to anything substantial, never a hookup either.
I've met nicer, hotter, and more intelligent men at bars, with a good number of friendships, hookups, and even relationships.

Turn off your computer, and go look outside your door. It does open, even though you`ve never tried it. It goes out into the real world where real people live. Many of them are gay, and you meet them buying groceries, or at the library, or exploring your hobbies. Or you could go to a local gay bar, or bathhouse. Get off the fucking internet and go find a guy!

Yeah it's worth a shot, especially if you think you're having a hard time meeting guys. I'm on OkCupid... and I really haven't found many people at all that I felt like messaging. I was about to delete my account, but then I met/ went out on a date with a guy and it was great just a few days ago, so I'm glad I didn't. Give it a shot. I wouldn't use a site you have to pay for though, doesn't seem worth it to me. And you really can't tell if there's chemistry until you meet these guys in person so keep that in mind..

Except gay people don't necessarily go around wearing signs that say they are gay, so it's harder for us to meet people in the "real world", hence, lots of gay people use online dating. Nothing wrong with that IMO. Of course, I'd love to just bump into the man of my dreams at the checkout lane, but really how often does that happen?

I think match.com is pretty good. i mean manhunt, i don't think is that type of site. most if not all of the guys on that site are usually just looking for a hookup. try match.com or you can try connexion.org hell you can also try and put a ad on craigslist too. i know its craigslist but at lease you are putting yourself out there. one of the other posters also came up with a good idea. why don't you try and find some guys on here that in your area. anyhow, good luck and keep me posted

well up until recently, being gay was considered a disorder in itself, a sickness, so it just depends on what you call healthy
