I didn't watch the whole thing, but I do wonder...what is the difference between her stating her feelings about homosexuality and gays and others expressing their virulent hatred for G.W.? I disagree with her conclusions, but doesn't she have the right to state them?

To me, it isnt the stating that is the problem, it's the generalizing and promoting action against an entire class of people. Even if someone in a class of people does something wrong, it doesnt make the whole class of people guilty. Also, she is basing her anti-gay stance on the christian religion. Again, she can say this. But she can say this is morally wrong. However, once she agitates for action against a class of people based on her beliefs, then that is a problem.

Lastly, she is a state legislator and she is using her position to using her position to introduce bills to take action against a class of people. Therefore, that class of people is pushing back.

Suppose she were advocating Noah's curse on Canaan as the biblical basis for enslaving black people, and introducing bills to legalize slavery, does anyone think her biblical basis would be justified. "...Oh, it's in the Bible so she should be able to reinstitute slavery cuz I believe in the Bible." No, the question is settled. Society has determined slavery is wrong, even without a religious basis. Plus, I dont think the black community would tolerate that kind of threat constantly be held over them. Nor should they have to. Therefore, the amendment to the Constitution. Case closed.

Noah's curse, by the way, is one of the bases used by southerners to justify slavery in the US. "Oh, it's in the Bible so we can enslave black people. See...."

Yes, the whole problem with slavery was that it was confined to one particular race. I think I should be able to own white people and Asians as well as blacks.

The main difference is, is that we aren't law makers. As a private citizen, we can pretty much say what we want. She represents the citizens of Oklahoma and her bigotry influences her voting which, in turn, marginalizes the very citizens she was elected to represent. Plus, should anyone THAT ignorant be in government? (I'm trying not to laugh)

I say we donate money to her opponents campaign.

LOL. She pulls so much stuff out of her ass. She must have just visited a Nazi yard sale.
It is so nice that she is not gay bashing though .. she is just looking out for our own good! I have to get that history book that says that no nation that ever accepted homo's lasted more than a few decades!! It must be a collectors item! lol I am surprised she didn't mention that homosexuality was what made all the dinosaurs go extinct

Oh, and regarding free speech .. Oh God Please never let anyone take away free speech! I want to know what these people think. I want them exposed to the world. So the more foolishness that spews from their mouths, the less they will be able to hide in the shadows!

Sometimes I can't believe I live in a state where we have such a high concentration of outspoken ignorant government representatives. People like that make everyone in this state look like a bunch of ignorant, backward hicks when that is not the case. I am completely out and have never run across this kind of bigotry the entire 8 years I've lived here.

But all you can do is feel sorry for people like that. In my experience living here, the people that say those things, do not say them without reason. Usually they themselves, their spouses, or a son/daughter is usually gay. They irrationally blame all other gays for their loved one's sexual orientation. I'm sure if someone looked in her closet, so to speak, I'm sure there would be a lot of interesting things that would come to light.

Here's the story and response as it appeared in our paper:

You know it has really nothing at all about free speech.

If the woman was talking amongst her friends not in a public forum in her stature as her office then ok its all good.

But to voice her back yard no founding no back up data about things in which she really has no factual data.

To talk that gay agenda. (personally id love to see the agenda been a member since 18 lol) and how its more important then to go after terrorism.

That in its self has to tell you she is NOT stable. Obviously has no idea. Ship her dumb ass over to Iraq put p90 in her hand and have her go on patrol for 6mo to 1 year in iraq. Then we can talk about terrorism.

Oh ya. I forgot she is a representative that was put into one the school system for 20 years as she stated. Talk about agenda of teaching hate.

But then further in job where she can make laws.
Pass legistlature and laws that are just waste of time.

Well I could on for hours but ... Anyone that has never worked with people nor given volunteer time to help our youth our people in the the hardest of situations really would never say the things she does.

I hope that when she goes to church on Sicon_evil.gifunday she puts in her money in the basket sings and praises god and Jesus and takes the blood and body of Christ. I hope that washes away her sins for her and she can go out and do more harm and hate.

Can't see how her free speech was being infringed upon. Has she been jailed for her comments by the State? NO...

She spoke her mind, now she's getting flamed. She's caused no literal harm, but her inflammatory statements must be answered by other free-thinkers and free-speakers.

I've never understood the Freedom of Speech defense by haters. "Oh, don't get angry with me for being a hating bitch...I'm just exercising my Constitutional right to be a c*nt."

I respect her right to be a c*nt. Just don't get angry when I call you a c*nt.

I am a strong supporter of free speech, even when it is a speech such as this and speech that I don't like. I heard inflammatory, but not incitement in her rant.

Now, if she had said something like, "I think we should kill homosexuals because they're worse than terrorists" that would be incitement and thus, hate speech.

I am with ActiveandFit on this one in that their speech exposes their idiocy (and lunacy?) when they mouth off like that.

Another example of how false belief systems / religion majorly fuck folks in the head.

    What a disgrace.

As someone who grew up on a ranch in Nebraska, I know that nothing could be more natural.

Religion, and false belief systems, is the deeper problem here.

WOW. She's a piece of work that's for sure. It's amazing that no one has picked her up and thrown her in a toilet because that's where that kind of s@#! belongs, but everyone is entitled to vocalize their opinion.

Anyone who didn't know any better would think all people in that state thought that way.

This is coming from a representative whose own state was devastated last decade with a terrorist bombing by a group that supports much of the vile that she spewed out!! I don't understand how there is not much more of an outcry by the people of Oklahoma. icon_mad.gif

Exactly. And to this I would add that the more people that are out and show that you can be a big 'mo AND just as well-adjusted or dysfunctional as the 'ros, the more people like this woman will find themselves pushed to the fringe where they belong. It's called the market place of ideas.

Caslon and ActiveAndFit hit it on the head. She can say what she wants but must be prepared for the consequences. She is an elected official that must be held accountable for her statements. Someone in her position cannot be allowed to make unsubstantiated comments to incite prejudice (and possibly violence)against another group of people.

I just knew chucky would manage to get religion into this somehow. Homophobia to this degree is not necessarily about biblical decrees, although most homophobes will say that it is.

This kind of hate is purely tribal (overwhelming fear and loathing of the "other"). Difference must be eliminated for these kind of people to feel safe and comfortable. The best way to stamp it out is to give them a microphone and let them indict themselves...

Uh, she brought religion into it, not Chucky, though Chucky is far more correct in his assessment than she is.

As I said, most homophobes will say that this is about religion, but if you read my post, it is really about something deeper.

A true follower of the teaching/philosophy of Jesus would not be capable of such hatred. All that bile is Old Testament CRAP that is best discarded.

I find it's usually best to allow someone just enough rope to hang themselves and then sit back and watch the show. Let her keep talking. I just hope someone asks her if she'll be joining Fred Phelps in picketing soldiers funerals. The look on her face would no doubt be priceless.icon_lol.gif

    Why is this so surprising?

    Larry Kramer is correct,

Straights DO hate us. How many voted for her? How many voted for Bush in the last election? How many gays and lesbians voted for Bush? And he and this woman from Oklahoma aren't the only ones. They are just more outspoken about it. There's Bill Clinton and his "don't ask, don't tell" policy and his support of the hideous Defense of Marriage Act.

At least she is more honest about her hatred then the ones that pretend to like us.
