I was coming down with the sniffles a couple of days ago and decided to experiment with a Lavender Oil bottle I usually use for home fragrance, and within a period of 24 hrs not only my cold symptoms disappeared but so did my headache! has anyone had similar experiences with the healing powers of oil fragrances? I simply applied the oil on my forehead!!

if you followed up by taking two aspirin, drinking lots of fluids and placing you anointed head on a pillow to sleep for a good long time, it probably was quite effective. Lavender is known to be calming.

Interesting, I have never heard of lavendar as having healing properties. I've only known it to relax the body. And when it comes to the type of fragrances I've only heard of Natural oils working not synthetic. Since you use it for home fragrance I suspect it was not a natural oil.

I also believe there is a difference between using the oils as aromatherapy and as a topical oitment. I have used tea tree oil to stop and prevent infection by applying it to the wound. This does work.

You just simply smelled the lavendar extract oil and nothing else? No medicines or copious amounts of fluids? Maybe it was a 48hr bug...nevertheless astounding!

I referred to the Lavender Oil as fragrance because I sometimes rub the oil on my body as I LOVE the smell of it!! I buy the pure oil essence not the diluted kind! I also use Tea Tree Oil as a disinfectant, is the best thing out there, and is fairly cheap too! I buy 2 oz. bottles pharmaceutical grade for at least $10 at my local Walmart store.

I don't usually resort to aspirins when I have a headache, but rather prefer to drink a lot of water and take a nice nap or a nice restful sleep. I have been very busy raking leaves off my property, pulling weeds off the ground, and other miscellaneous and general garden work! these kind of physical activities tend to be very repetitious and quite tedious in the cold and windy days of Autumn. So yes I agree that Lavender do have calming properties.

I make my own lavander perume. I dont realy get sick all that offten if ever. Plus with lavander being a holy oil no wonder it helped. You can even take lavander essential oil and put it on your shirts or the inside of your cuffs of your shirts.

Lavander was actualy taken and strewn on the floors of churches in midevil times. When the black pleauge hit europe home thives would use lavander oil mixed with vinigar to protect themselvs from the dissease. Amazingly enoguh perufmers of the time where the least effected by the pleauge becasue of essential oils used in perfumery at that time. Not to mention essential oils also pack many antimicrobial qualities.

    enough said.

essential oils have been around forever! my mom is obsessed with thieves' oil. she's one step away from injecting it, convinced it will protect her from any germs.

i love the smell of sandalwood. its so calming and is supposed to be an aphrodisiac.

essential oils are different than essences though... i dont know too much about essences.. usually from flowers... its a little more new age... stuff about particle vibrations and shit... gotta do more reading up on it.

i hear if you put too much lavender essential oil you start experiencing a sex change . :p

my niece is experimenting with lavender culture . If the plants survive well through the winter, we might go on a larger scale next year.

my favorite is peppermint oil . Muscle pains, sour throat, congestion,
    it works well.

for massages, my sister uses also cinnamon oil mixed with peppermint.

just a pointer to anyone who goes out to buy cinnamon oil to massage yourself or partner... u need a carrier oil when applying to the skin... it stimulates circulation... as in the cinnamon oil fucking burns if too much is applied. u need like a drop mixed in with a handful of jojoba or apricot kernel oil or some other carrier.

The essential oil of lavender is a well-known treatment for stress headaches. That your cold symptoms disappeared as well is a pleasant if unprecedented bonus!

I have lavendar and also tea tree oil. It probably doesn't do anything except calm you. I don't remember why I bought it but I think I did to mix it with other items to get rid of my scalp itch. Didn't really work.
