Has anyone had Muscle Milk before? I tried it for the first time today and it was positively the most vile stuff I've ever consumed. Bitter and gross. I've taken medicine that tasted better.

What are your favorite protein supplements?

Muscle Milk is probably the least foul tasting protein around. If you don't like it, try Syntha-6 by BSN. Or try the pre-mixed Muscle Milk shakes, which taste like chocolate milk.

Get ready for a world of disappointment if you expect protein supps to actually taste good.

It's not the best thing to have but sometimes I bring some along with me when I know that I'll need my protein and caloric needs filled. It's very convenient and satiating, preventing me from feeling the need to gobble down food when I get home late.

I know protein supplements aren't the greatet tasting things, and I've had other types (powders, bars, etc) but this stuff is by far the worst. The best I've had is ISOPURE Protein Water....found it at a health food store. If only it weren't soooo expensive. $4 a bottle.

Muscle Milk tastes great (cookies and cream and chocolate), but there are a lot of calories and it's pretty high in fat. Isopure and Pro Complex are good proteins that are lower in fat.

Isopure. On the expensive side but I think it tastes good... er, I should say, not bad. But... I blend it with a banana and some peanut butter most of the time. Mixed with just water it's not horrible though.

Well, it's not much for taste.. but I go for Hammer Nutrition Whey mixed with a bit of their electrolyte powder in a big glass of milk.... The choc. is good as long as you sweeten it a bit.... with FROZEN STRAWBERRIES! (Sorry... got a little carried away there...)

I actually love chocolate muscle milk but think the other flavors suck...and not in a good way. I also like the isopure zero carb drinks in bottles. at a party, i mixed isopure apple melon with vodka and called them protinis. either they were really good, or we were really drunk by that point.

Muscle Milk is the BEST tasting protein powder in my opinion.

Try the Cake Batter or Brownie Batter, Cookies N Creme, Orange N Creme or Peanutbutter Chocolate

Never tried the powder version. I'm sure it tastes better. But the RTD version is disgusting. Check the ingredients it contains like 2 different types of vegetable oils as the primary ingredients. And it definitely feels like like you're drinking oil. I'm sure they could have used something else to make it thicker and milkshake-like. But vegetable oil? I got a free sample at the gym once. Glad I waited till I got home to try it. That stuff passed right through my system. icon_neutral.gif

I thought the same thing too, but it gets better. I read on a forum to try mixing it early, then leaving it in the fridge or freezer; it does indeed taste better when it's very cold.

Still, the best tasting one I've tried is GNC's AMP wheybolic extreme 60. High priced compared to others, but it tastes great and works well.

I get EAS.. Cheap, clean, whey protein. Sometimes hard to choke down with just water. But I usually blend it with a handful of frozen blueberries and a few frozen strawberries.. YUM Love my baby blender..

Muscle Milk has some of the best tasting powders out there, by a large margin. A lot of them taste like eating cake or brownie batter. There are a few foul tasting ones (e.g. banana and cookies and cream IMO), though which you think is foul depends on the person. Also, the RTD drinkable Muscle Milks taste pretty mediocre (and don't have the same ingredients as the powders).

That said, while I used to be a big fan of Cytosport (company that makes Muscle Milk products), I stopped buying form them when it was revealed that their and EAS's products had a very high heavy metal content (lead, mercury, etc.).
6-Star and Optimum Nutrition are much better brands on that front. Optimum Nutrition is just great all together (I like their naturals line, which doesn't have any fake sweeteners, not even stevia - so happy someone is finally doing that).

Consumer Reports Chart on Heavy Metals (note, most foods have heavy metals, even wheat bread, the Cytosport/Muscle Milk (and EAS) just have ridiculously high levels):

RowBuddy saidThe best I have found is the VitaminShoppe Whey protein. It is inexpensive, sweetened with Splenda and does not give me GAS.

On the subject of price, I feel the need to plug DPS Nutrition.
I've been purchasing from them for years. It is sooooooo ridiculously cheap compared to any other source I've seen. Like the CostCo of protein powder. Great service, great product (i.e. normal expiration dates, etc.), fast shipping. Highly recommend it to anyone.

(Note: I'm not affiliated with them in any way, except as a very happy consumer icon_smile.gif)

Muscle Milk is high in fat and calories, I drink the Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60 from GNC, that product has given me the best results, and I am very pleased with it. It is best when it is buy one get one half off, that is the bast deal.
