Gay rights take a hit. Three judges who voted to make gay marriage legal in Iowa VOTED OUT OF OFFICE by Republican activists and voters.

The anti-gay religious right has a new tactic to use to deny equal rights to gay Americans.
They tried it out in Iowa, and it worked for them - because gays and progressives didn't show up at the polls to vote for their priorities and rights - Our lazy stupid inaction allowed the gay hating religious right to score a huge victory at our expense.

The religious right is relentless in attacking our freedom and blocking progress on achieving equal rights for gays.
We must fight and VOTE to protect our rights and freedoms.

They will never stop hating us and working hard to keep us second class citizens.
We pay our taxes and contribute to society just like everyone else.
We deserve to enjoy the same rights and protections that ALL Americans enjoy.

Get your heads out of the clouds and get off your asses and fight for our rights.
Progress on gay rights took a huge hit last night.
The Republicans may not have the power to get any legislation past the Senate and the President's veto pen - but the new Republican majority in the House can and WILL block any progress on gay rights for the next 2 years.

Two years from now, when these anti-gay Repubs are up for reelection - we MUST show up at the polls and VOTE THEM THE HELL OUT.

I know you are not going to like this; "they" outnumber "us" many times over. You are relying on "progressives" to show up and vote for something that is in your best interest and not necessarily theirs. If every GLBT person showed up and every one of them voted the same you still need many, many of the people that you label "progressives" to show up based on an issue that (likely) does not affect them personally.

In short, the anit-gay groups got people riled up by feeding them crap about "needing to protect the sanctity of marriage" etc. So the voters felt they had a personal stake to show up and vote. I can not see how you will get "progressives" to feel that same sense of urgency. I keep saying it; change will only come through the law. After watching JUDGES get booted is there anybody who believes that a majority of politicians will have the balls to risk their jobs for the rights of a very small population? Nevermind what is right, what is just, or even what the constitution says- you are asking them to give up their job; give up holding influence and power over others. You are asking self centered, power hungry people to give up their dream job to allow you something as trivial as "your rights"?

I think it was funny to have people happy that DADT was upheld indefinately because they thought that we would get it done the "right" way. I would venture that it will be at least 5 years, possibly 10 before we see any real movement on that front. Now, after already having made it clear to politicians that they will loose their jobs for voting for "gay rights" they are sending the same message to judges. This should worry people. I recall learning about the protections that were supposed to be built in to protect the population from the "tyranny of the majority" and now I see that majority exploiting loopholes and, in affect, firing people from their posts for not continuing to illegally deny others their rights. Scary stuff...

The number of views this thread has received as opposed to some of the other ones about sex/barebacking/hot guys should show you where the priorities of this community lie.

There's already a topic on this, and yes, it is a drawback for freedom for gays, despite the many positive outcomes yesterday.

I say, unless someone has a crystal ball, to just take a wait and see attitude and see how all of this plays out. I still think DADT will be repealed -- and soon -- and I also think gay rights will make other gains in the foreseeable future. Think positive.

I really hope you are right. I suppose that I have become very jaded towards politicians (and likely people in general.) Do you see change from the politicians, the judges, the supreme court or the military.

Is it movement from within the military itself that you believe may lead the way? Is there any chance of the military itself taking the lead and finding some way to prepare for and implement the decision of the court? I will admit complete ignorance as to whether or not that is even possible- but it would seem that a positive movement led from the military would go a long way to showing that they are not only open to the change, but willing to lead it; that would seem to be the ideal way- lead by example...

And as Rand Paul won so did an openly gay mayor. Just goes to show that people care more about policies than orientation overall.

" . . . . The National Organization for Marriage and other foes of gay marriage around the country spent an estimated $1 million on the removal effort, while the three judges chose not to raise money and campaign.

"This spiteful campaign is a wake-up call to future voters who must resist attempts to politicize the courts," said Kevin Cathcart of Lambda Legal, a national gay-rights group. "If an embattled judiciary were to lose its ability to protect our laws and constitution with impartiality, that would be a tragic loss."

Brian Brown, president of the National Organization for Marriage, depicted the judges' ouster, coupled with the GOP gains in Congress, as a "historic and stunning" victory for foes of gay marriage.

The Iowa result, he said, "sends a powerful message to any judge who thinks they can impose gay marriage by judicial fiat against the wishes of the people."

Evan Wolfson, a gay-rights lawyer who heads the national group Freedom to Marry, said the judicial recall was intended as "an intimidating, thuggish message" to other courts.

"If I had just mugged a judge, I wouldn't be running around bragging about it," he said. . . . "

Welcome to professional politics boys - just when gay teens are killing themselves because of others bullying and/or humiliating them to make them feel worthless ... just when compassionate people are making hundreds or more videos to claim "it gets better," .... [wait for it] CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN OPERATIVES (Mr. Rove, Ms. Buchanan, Ms. Coulter, Ms. Palin, etc.) spent $1M to conceive and implement a plan of action by political bullying and thuggery to change the landscape wherever possible in this country (Iowa) to, in fact, demonstrate that the LGBT community are not equal, don't deserve to be equal, are an abomination and worse.

Oh, and this is just the beginning ...

Policies? Rand Paul was a fluke (Tea Party). The rest were Republicans. And, people didn't vote on policy, they voted on anger.

Explain Rick Scott of Florida winning over Alex Sink and tell me policy had anything to do with the decision.

I could not agree more. As a matter of fact now that the repuGlicans are back in office in numbers, their swarm has grown. Now the bloody cockroaches are showing themselves. One HUGE repuGlican cockroach that I just now viewed on some cable channel is none other than one of the head RWcN (Right Wing christian Nazi) leaders, Ralph Reed of the Faith and Freedom Coalition. He was holding a press conference. icon_eek.gif

These are the nutbags and haters that come along with, and are, the repuGlicans. And the repuGs love them. These are the people and party that will do EVERYTHING in their power to take away what few rights We as Gay people have. They are the people who will preach, not only from the pulpit about how evil and twisted We are, but from the political arena as well as they have done before.

It pains me to say this but the Democrats deserved to lose these mid-terms.icon_sad.gif Not for what they have been doing, but rather what they didn't do these past 2 years. They had the repuGlicans beaten........they had the stupid sods on the ground. Primed to have their bloody rotten necks stepped on and then snapped. But no......they just kept holding out some bullshit olive branch to these bastards!! icon_mad.gif

For the right wing dolts on this site, you should feel ashamed of what your party will do to Us as Gay people. You think you are so above it all, and are putting the good of the country ahead of yourselfs. Well bully for you!! We as Gay people WILL NEVER be viewed as equal humans with the repuGlicans having any sort of say.
I myself, several years ago made the tragic mistake of voting for a repuG as the Attorney General of this state (VA) His name was Bob McDonnell. The now current Governor. Why did I vote for him? Because the hayseed that the Democrats put up to run against him was so bloody stupid. So now McDonell is the head RWcN (Right Wing christian Nazi) of the state and his endorsement, Ken Cuccinelli is now the Attorney General. Both of these christian-morons have done nothing but interjected their bullshit faith into all aspects of their governing. They are both quite comfortable denouncing Gays and our rights. They have both said that being Gay "is not natural" and is "against god's law." The idiot Cuccinelli is trying to get the state seal of the Roman Goddess Virtus remade because it shows her breast!!! And the Governor is OK with it!!! These are the bloody puritanical RWcN (Right Wing christian Nazis) that make up the repuGlican party.
So stop with the nonsense that you are putting the country first above the Gay population's needs and demands. We are part of this country and deserve/demand the exact same rights as everyone else. Rights We will NEVER have with the Right Wing christian Nazis in power. icon_exclaim.gif

    1. Congrats to the Tea Party and the GOP for making history. Most seats won by an opposing party in OVER 70 YEARS! WOW!icon_biggrin.gif

    2. In regards to DADT and gay marriage the liberals have held complete power in the house, senate and white house to overturn this and completely spit in the face of all of you gay democrat voters. They used you.

    3. Balance is good in Washington. Now its time to govern and SERVE the american taxpayer.

If you read the article, this is the first time any SC judges in that state have been ousted. I blame it on most people probably being like me and just kinda ignoring that part of the ballot because your not electing anyone, just saying whether they can keep their job. And in their case, the bigoted religious nuts (not the good kind) had sticks up their asses still over that while if you actually polled everyone, the majority probably wouldn't give a shit about it.

Next time I vote, I think I will take a closer look at that part of the ballot, now that this has happened.

uh, genius, if it's the "Most seats won by an opposing party in OVER 70 YEARS! WOW!" then that means it's not the first time and, therefore, hardly "making history," as you so eloquently labeled it.

And if you recall, the Dems tried to repeal DADT via the defense authorization bill, but the Republicans put an end to that. The liberals tried, but the cons. did what they're really good at doing when they don't rule the roost ... wait a second, the Republicans filibustered more legislation in the last two years than any other term in history (2-year term to boot). Now THAT'S MAKING HISTORY. That's what I would call a WOW moment, not what happened last night. Voter turnout from the left was terrible, while turnout from the right was impressive. You call that a true representation of what the American people want? The American people have spoken? Nope, but they'll turn out in droves to vote Obama for a second term. This is as predictable as the Republicans winning the House; something that was predicted back when Obama won the presidency.

I really wish guys like you would turn off the fucking television and think for yourselves.

So, Mr. one post, no face troll, go crawl back into your hole, or be a real man and post under your actual profile. Don't waste our time with this bullshit.

Not just folks in blue states.
We'll still have a Democratic President and a Democratic-controlled Senate in place to prevent the Repub House from doing anything offensive.
They may be able to block progress on gay rights for the next two years, but they can't get anything passed into law.

However, they will have to present policy proposals and packages of SPECIFIC spending cuts.
If they veer far to the right and try to make severe deep painful cuts, the Dems and the American people will say "Hell NO".
If they take a moderate middle-of-the-road path and try to make limited minor cuts that will do nothing to reduce the National Debt, the Teabaggers and the mainstream media will cut them to ribbons for failing to keep their campaign promises to make deep spending cuts and reduce the National Debt.

    It's a win-win for the Democrats.

Sorry I'm a bit more concerned with the economy, and the future of the country.. Not gay marriage, or DADT. Some of you guys I have to say sound a bit silly too. Going off trying to demonize an entire party, while at the same time didn't get anything from the Democrats when they had full power of everything.

If everything completely falls apart in this country, because people were more concerned with activism, instead of policies to turn things around for the better.. What will it matter?

So you can get married to a guy, but you're living on the street now lol. So you won't be kicked out of the military if its discovered your gay.. But your country is now 100% owned by China.. Get a grip people there are far more important things going on. Acting as if gays are going to get hauled off to a concentration camp.. So silly.. I don't care if a politician or judge is for gay marriage or not. I'm going for the person who has the right solutions to turn this country around for the better.

And yes.. Its sad but true.. There will always be people who hate gays, no amount of policy or laws will ever change that. I think if gay rights activist, paid attention to how MLK went about changing the hearts and minds of people, instead of letting these crazy left-wing gay activist who continue to put gays in a bad light every time they disrespect religion, disrupt, agitate. Or make themselves look like complete freaks during "gay pride" (dunno how anyone could take pride in that mess).. Maybe things would slowly move in a better direction, that would put things on the right path of change.. There are a lot of people out there who while they may not agree with homosexuality... Don't feel gays should be denied to marry who they love, or get restricted from anything else someone else isn't... But then when they see the radical activist saying or doing something crazy.. It makes it hard for them to support the cause..Because those freaks suck the oxygen right out of the room (and I don't mean suck in a good way lol)

Read "After the Ball".. A book written by gay rights activist in the late 80's... Which states the "gay agenda", and you'll understand why gays have a hard time being taken seriously, or aren't viewed in such a good light. Then meditate on it for a bit.. Ask yourself if that's something you want. Ask yourself if it is right. Do I blame ignorant misguided Conservative Christians too? You bet I do, but again as I said the other side continues to produce ammo for em.. And until that changes nothing will. Gays don't even treat each other right, so how can you expect other people to treat you right, or take you seriously?

Now is what I had to say harsh? Yes it is, but its the truth which is never pretty. Being all politically correct, and throwing blame solely on another group without taking a good look at the problems going on within yourself, and working hard in fixing them, so you can be stronger... And no longer the victim doesn't help. When MLK was doing his work, in changing the hearts and minds of people.. He stated how not to behave, what not to do.. Make all of the lies told by people who disdained them look exactly like that, lies. He encouraged people to better themselves, and to not be victims.
