I know this is completely off topic, I would comment on your post if I watch this show, but I just wanted to say its a little trippy how posts are being time stamped an hour in the future. I know its because of the time change. but anyways...

OK, so did anyone watch this last night? One of the gay guys, the less effeminate one, buddied up with Carlos. It shocked Gabie. Pretty funny lines while at the dinner table.

Then the two wanted to play golf together, but Gabie forbade it because she was told (by the gay guy's ex) that the other gay may be trying to "flip" Carlos into being gay. When he confronted Gabie on this, he said that he was just lonely and wanted to have a friend, a social life, and how could she think such a thing. Gabie then saw he was not after Carlos, and agreed for the two to go on a golf weekend. All good up to that point.

So we had, up to that point, three gay stereotypes blown away for the str8 audience:

    1. Not all gays are effeminate.
    2. Gay guys can and do like sports and are not interested in decorating and lady's fashions.
    3. Gay guys are not looking to "convert" straight guys and don't have agendas (most of the time).

Fine. But then, instead of ending it with Carlos and gay guy going on a weekend trip as friends, Gabie brings the gay guy's ex over and tries to get the two to make up. At first they don't look like they want to talk to each other, but as Gabie opens the door to say one more thing, the two guys are wildly kissing. Lord.

This I think sent a bad signal to the gay community. "Stick with your own kind." Why couldn't Carlos and him gone on that golfing trip? Then they could be friends and he could talk to Carlos in the future about his ex or something. They make is seem like two gay men who are broken up would get back to each other in a second and have gay sex.

So........nice beginning and a poor ending on last night's show. Thoughts?

    @ Wrestlervic;
I agree, I felt the same way too. I thought they almost hit a home run with that issue until the last minute, it was like a copout, a transparent excuse just to throw in the men kissing to thrill the gay fans and shock the straight audience.

i think you are putting too much thought into it. i doubt the writers of the show were that twisted as to intentionally put in that message, and i also doubt that very many ppl watching got that same message from it. although, i dont watch the show so i have no idea, maybe it was condescending and snobbish... i certainly wouldn't put it past desperate housewives icon_smile.gif

i watched. i kinda felt that too but i dont see it that way now because they were already in love and Gabie & the non-effeminate one did discuss the "a guy gay being friendly with ur husband is dangerous for ur marriage issue". even
straight couples go back together that way sometimes, they dont always have long & clever conversation why they broke up! love is love, and it speaks for itself .. and in desperate housewives they always like to mixe a sens truth, some drama and comedy.. s
personaly i was fine with it

    just my 2 cents icon_biggrin.gif

There was a time when two gay men wouldn't have been seen kissing on network television, and it wasn't all that long ago. Now that it's happening, you're going to complain that it's sending a bad message to the straight audience? And what's up with this ridiculous desire to please the simple-minded straights?

Not that this can even be credited for writing thought provoking storylines.

Give me a break. They showed the two kissing for less than one second quickly followed by a door shut. If you're happy with carrots, fine. I demand more from TV. It's time.

Also, as you just saw, it's these "simple-minded" straights that just won in the elections, and will decide the future of many gay people.

What, you think you're going to get a thoughtful, fully realized storyline for gay characters from the writers of Desperate Housewives? They can barely write for they're straight characters.

And what are you predicting is going to happen?

Yep, it was obvious that the writers attempted to do good for us with the beginning of the show, but then pulled the carpet out from under at the end. Shame.

You guys are way over-thinking this issue. Can we just leave it that gay stereotypes are being diluted and leave it at that? It's Sunday night entertainment, not a statement on sexuality. Change comes slowly and I think they're doing a good job with it.
