I'll be in NYC soon and would like advice on good bar/restaurant/maybe clubs where the 30s-40-50s professional crowd hangs out. Would also be up for a local guide if you felt inclined (working days, but free evenings and weekend).Hotel is near Times Sq.
    Cheers,
    Dan

Try Carmens in the theater district. Its a great family style Italian place. There are several fantastic places in Hell's Kitchen. HK runs from 34th to 59th streets and from 8th Ave to 11th Ave. Most of the really good restaurants are on 9th/ 10th Aves.

Lots of clubs/ bars, pick up a copy of HX magazine when you get there it has listings of all the clubs/ bars and happenings with a day by day breakdown.

    Have fun and enjoy!

I don't know if HX magazine still exist. They went under or were bought out atleast a year ago.

http://www.nextmagazine.com/ they also have a weekly hard copy which is available at many places for free. Click On the next week tab on top.

There is also a new web site called; http://www.hmess.com/ but there info is for some entries already stale. They still had a place or two that had closed down already. For all there youthful ambition I'd rate them only a C+ for information. It needs a stronger editorial presence and more professional managerial team but after all that they are still a source.

    Here is another site http://www.queenofnewyork.com/

There is a new bar opening just around the time your scheduled to be in city and very near a bunch of others. Check there facebook page out: http://www.facebook.com/industrybar

Good luck and have a blast!!!

Carmine's, not Carmen's. I'm only nitpicky because there's probably at least one restaurant called Carmen's, too). Two other really good Italian places in that neighborhood are Becco on West 46th St and Puttanesca (56th & 9th) the latter being a little more affordable.

What kind of food(s) do you like?

A nice place to drink is Therapy (52nd betw 8th and 9th). They have shows of some sort upstairs.

HX has been gone for a few years.
