So I was in the French Connection this past weekend and couldn't help but notice their ad campaign - seems as though the "burly man" is coming back. What are your thoughts on this? Personally, I'm all for my fur coming back in style but after almost a decade of perfectly plucked orange douchebags I wonder if things might actually switch. I mean, in the 80's fur was all the rage, a sign of a man's manliness....what's your take on this?

Personally, I manscape but keep the chest fur as a show of my manhood - hehe, I've got a loootttt of testosterone flowing through these veins

Here are some of the burly man ads I was talking about

They might come back. Not through these ads tho. It looks like they pulled a homeless guy off the streets and put their clothes on him. I can see why their stores have been shutting down.

a thick, dense, neatly trimmed and well shaped to the face beard gets my attention and admiration.

this fool in the ads does NOT.

HOW can anyone have that unraveled steel wool beard....and a carefully shaped and trimmed pec and ab hair combo?

that beard HAS to be a stick on?

Ok...there's burly and there's dirty...these guys look like they need a shower. I'm all for celebrating the hair but not at the cost of hygiene.

The burly man has never gone out of style, but what I'm thinking of is a guy who hasn't shaved in maybe 2 weeks, not months.

    Hmmm
When I think of burly I think of:

...except hot- not like the pic. icon_redface.gif

This guy is too thin and scrawny to be considered burly.

The French Connection guy looks more like a lead singer for a Folk Americana band.

Seriously? The guy in the ads is just...scary unshaved meth addict. These other two cats look like they're wearing eye-shadow...like two Liza impersonators before using the razor.
Burly (ugh, what a fucking dated and bizarre term...) is a little closer to this

Hey.. that's the best photo I could find at the time.

Ugh... I can't believe I used the wrong "too-" edit button ftw!

    "Cats.." talk about dated. icon_wink.gif

Well, if the burly man is making a come back I've been out ahead of the pack and futuristic all my life. lol. Trend setter here. So, the real question is, why hadn't anyone listened to me all those years? lol.

Pretty sure those ads are meant to appeal to the hipster irony trend. (Maybe a tad bit late on that, but they're still cute I think.)
I'm really surprised anyone in here is taking them seriously. icon_smile.gif

Seriously? The trouble with sarcasm and irony is that they translate poorly in the literal context of a "forum" - thus the et tu re the Brute et al.

Sometimes I wonder about the fashion industry, and I am fashion designer, I have a certain extreme disdain for full grown beads and even more for mustaches. I don't get them and never will... Its like trying to hide ones beauty... However a I don't mind a bit of stubble if it enhances once appearance....
