“Next year there’s no chance of anything happening,”
Rep Barney Frank told the Wash Blade

    "There's zero chance"
Frank told the Blade he is confident the Senate will join President Obama in blocking antigay legislation the Republicans might try to push through over the next two years.

“It will be a status quo,” he said. “They don’t have the votes to hurt us but we don’t have the votes to advance anything in the cause.”

    Obvious statement is obvious.

/Although keep an eye on Maryland and Rhode Island for some state level progress.

Just like for the past two years.

So no change... No chances of any "gay issues" being resolved by the Federal government.

You must have missed the part where the Matthew Shepard Act passed and the ending of the AIDS immigration ban.

AIDS is "human issue" not a "gay issue."

    Just thought I'd clarify. icon_wink.gif

I was thinking of it in terms of bills that the LGBT community have been actively advocating for and that could no longer pass Congress, but yes you are correct.

So no change... No chances of any "gay issues" being resolved by the Federal government.

Matthew Shepard Act passed into law
    Lily Ledbetter
    Partner benefits for federal employees
    DADT passed the house

    So, stop lying.

Yeah.... if you look at it on the face of things, the passage of the Act appears to have coincided with a rash of bullying against gays.... and suicides.

Most people have no clue that the Matthew Shepard Act even exists, let alone will it actually do any good, except allow Democrats to crow about how they "helped the gays."

    Well aren't we Debby Downer.

    Again, another lie.

the measure expands the 1969 United States federal hate-crime law to include crimes motivated by a victim's actual or perceived gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.

    The bill also:

    * removes the prerequisite that the victim be engaging in a federally-protected activity, like voting or going to school;
    * gives federal authorities greater ability to engage in hate crimes investigations that local authorities choose not to pursue;
    * provides $5 million per year in funding for fiscal years 2010 through 2012 to help state and local agencies pay for investigating and prosecuting hate crimes;
    * requires the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to track statistics on hate crimes against transgender people (statistics for the other groups are already tracked).

Matthew Shep.... just discussed it above.

Lilly.... and that helps the gays how?

Fed employee benefits... great, if you work for the Federal government... oh wait a sec... the way the Federal government has been growing under the Democrats, we all would have been working for them sooner or later...

DADT... killed by Democrat leader Harry Reid in the Senate....

Start seeing the world as it is, and not as how you would like it to be....

Again, Hate Crimes bill discussed above.

Lily Ledbetter requires women to receive equal pay to men which helps the 50% of our movement that are women.

Employee benefits have a real impact on LGBT families, unlike waiting for money to trickle down from on high

DADT killed by Republicans in the Senate while scapegoating DREAM Act.

    Big deal.

Translation: It does nothing of any use.

And you're basing that on your extensive knowledge of law enforcement polices and procedures. I'm from a family of cops and started college intending to enter the FBI , so bite me.

You know, honestly, you are a dick for even piping up. A typical Republican or Independent or whatever you want to call yourself, you knock everything that isnt part of the GOP or your own party.... yet you offer no solutions. You are a miserable person who seems to say nothing except "I told you so." Well what do you expect most of us to do? Vote for republicans who are anti-gay, independents who have no power, or democrats who at least want to overturn anti-gay policies? Overall, democrats are much much much more gay-friendly than the assholes in the GOP and other parties. No matter how you slice or dice it, being gay isnt popular, and neither is supporting our interests. Its about politics, not about some conspiracy to get gay voters to vote for them and then turning around and not helping us. Everything in this damn country is done to preserve power. To hell with your comments, SB.

    Now ...... I post a thread
where I myself had stated the obvious ...... That the republicans are going to DO NOTHING to further the GLBT cause

Barbey Frank in his interview verified that fact for me as well

And I go away to the gym and what do I find when I get back?
and argument about if DEMOCRATS had passed any legislation for the GLBT community
Guys ........... Newsflash if it weren't for democrats it didn't happen
When is it going to sink in
To the republican party you're even with the Taliban

But we all know that RJ never enforces forum rules anyway... though it's a much more pleasant place if people who disagree do not resort to personally attacking each other.

Art_Deco, Republicans can never answer a question when asked. They talk in circles to try to deflect the questioner. The reason they do that is that have answers for NOTHING. Their forte is to finger point and criticize. That is all they do and that is what they are all about.....

Now....in the Lame Duck session of Congress set to begin on Monday, we have a great chance to end the Bush tax cuts for the very wealthy, those that do not need that---and provide a middle class tax cut. Those of us in that category DO need that break.....we CAN repeal DADT.....and we can extend unemployment benefits for those unfortunate ones unable to find work. We can do a lot to bring back those Democrats that somehow stayed home last Tuesday and send a message to the Radical Right/Tea Bag/Southbeach/Republican/head-in-the-sand people that we mean business and a huge MISTAKE was made on election day, which will be corrected---and in a big way----in November of 2012 by re-electing President Obama and reclaiming our lost seats in the House and Senate. The Tea Baggers will embarass themselves like a fart during a High Mass and we can get back to the business of making the country forget about 8 years of George Bush.......

There is no such thing as left or right when your government is spineless and corrupt.

This attack/defend dynamic between us will go nowhere. Must we look at the track record?

The Democrats had control, but not complete control.

The reactionary forces that is the current phenomenon in the American reality is too great to offend by taking about gay rights and equality.

Now look at the Tea Party. Rand Paul is already flip-flopping on his earmarks pledge.

You see, the system has come so far, by so many increments, that we cannot talk about real reform, in the economy, in the defence budget, or in our civil liberties.

    http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/general_politics/october_2010/65_favor_getting_rid_of_entire_congress_and_starting_over

65% wanted to get rid of the ENTIRE Congress and start over. 64% of the Political Class want things to remain the same.

The status quo is bad for everyone and framing it in such two dimensional ways as left and right GETS US NOWHERE.

And some really good news in Florida today: Alex Sink, the Democrat that ran for Governor and lost to the clueless, convicted felon, Rick Scott....has left the door open for a run again in 4 years!! YEAH!!
