Do you have "blame the victim" mentality when it comes to illegal immigrants in the USA?

Just curious...It seems that many who oppose illegal immigrants/immigrants in general are very quick to attack the reasons why illegal immigrants aren't good people/culture/lifestyle etc. etc. etc. Do you think this is because of the blame the victim mentality or because of something else?

    Thoughttssss....?

keep in mind, blame the victim strategy is used against lbgt people all the time in politics icon_sad.gif

That's part of American nature to an extent. It's due to our incredible arrogance and lack of education.

I haven't seen many people demonize the immigrants themselves, except for those committing other crimes. I think there is a degree of compassion realizing the people were in a terrible situation in their native country, and in general are good, hard-working folks trying to make things better for their families. I also think if the border were secured, there would be broad support for a temporary guest worker program that would give them some status and some protection.

I doubt any level of education will convinve someone that an illegal act is no longer illegal. Perhaps when you refer to education you truly mean "brainwashing" where one no longer sees "illegal immigration" as illegal.

And, yes, you, SB and others on here are constantly dismissing outrageously illegal acts in the name of "free markets." icon_rolleyes.gif

Has nothing to do with blaming anyone as being "bad", it has to do with cost and sustainability and maintaining order in a society. Illegal immigrants simply want a better life like anyone else. Of course, there wasn't a welfare system, it wouldn't matter at all.

For the sake of exaggeration, what if it was a situation where someone proposed we take in half of all the economically depressed populations of India, Russia, Africa, China and Mexico in the name of doing good, would that be something sensible -- after all it's "reaching out" to the poor. It sounds like a lovely idea, of course.

Has nothing to do with hating any particular person. I have very dear friends who are here because of illegal immigration -- doesn't mean I'm not firmly against it in concept and principle.
