My friends and I have discussed these shows frequently. Do you think that they are showing how hard it is to be a teenage mother, or do you think that they are saying "look, if you have a teen pregnancy then you have a shot to be on television and the front of magazines"?

I would also put Bristol Palin and Levi in the mix. Both of them catapulted to fame, hell, Bristol is even on Dancing with the Stars.

Are they covering the birth part down to the last gory details, including c-sections, episiotomies, placentas, etc..? Then it might have a chance to act as birth control...

I have seen part of one episode on MTV, but I'll pass. Just a bunch of worthless, uneducated skanky whores looking for their 15 mins.

I've watched a couple of episodes of 16 and Pregnant before on MTV, and they didn't seem like they were having a hard time at all. Most of them left their baby to their parents to look after, and returned to their trivial and overly dramatic lifestyle as soon as they dropped the baby out.

I think a lot of the teenagers from those shows are too fortunate with their loving parents' support to show the other teenagers the true burdening effects of teenage pregnancy. Those shows are just as trashy and pointless to watch as other shows on MTV. Like seriously, you can learn more from watching Real World than that garbage.

They do show the downsides of giving birth, but right after it seems like all is well and the pregnancy was a minor disturbance.

And Teen Mom has followed the lives of a couple of your mothers. But one of them comes from a nice family that supports her, and the baby. It seems like she has no real hardships except that her friends went off to college, and she went to a local college.

I have seen some episodes, but I think it is bad, and you trow away your future.
uptill now I have only seen the ones where the boy was busy and did not visit much, and the girl leaves the baby with the parents.

this show sucks. I watched 3-4 episodes while waiting for jesery shore to come on and all I can say is all those teenagers are fucked up in the head. I dont feel bad for any of them since its their fault they had the kid and they should had used condoms or birth control and have safe sex to prevent it. I hate that one girl who always complain about raising the child on her own when her parents help her most of the time. I also hate that "chunky" girl who is abusive towards her babys father and fighting in front of her child. The other couples dont really bother me since they are kinda w/e and seem to be stuck in teenage la la land and need to grow up and mature more. I also dont get why one of the couples gave up their child when they could had raised their child on their own with the money they are earning from the show. Though I do understand their situation, I think they could had just did home studies or do adult school and still get their high school diploma. EHhh im a reality junkie icon_biggrin.gif!

I think its great for the fact that it exposes how tough it can be to be a teenager and have a baby. Depending on the timing of when the baby arrives the girls don't finish high school. Some are not able to go to college or end up putting it off for a long time.

Another thing that any girl, or anyone in general should notice is that these boyfriends are going to be scared by the idea of being a dad. I can only remember two teen dads who were over joyed by the idea of being together with their child's mother and raising a baby. Just because he is the dad does not mean he will stick around. The more truth teenage girls across America know about the physical and emotional pains of being pregnant, the better.

The only two reasons that I find this show to be a bad idea is for the actual mothers in the show. At what point does this show turn from being a documentary and into a reality show. I know that a great portion of the show is scripted. FOR EXAMPLE the scenes they have where they sit and talk about how their parents found out, how the mother found out, the soon to be parents talking to their close friends. While the fights and child birthing is not.

Overall, I would say the show is great. But I wouldn't want to see these girls in the show to the point where their kids are graduating high school.

I totally disagree. So a girl comes on the show, gets pregnant and makes the hardest decision of her life and give up her baby to total strangers who cannot conceive a child of their own for 15mins of fame? More teenage girls are getting pregnant everyday cause of their self or dumb boys. Why not document live of a teenage pregnant girl and see is it worth having sex so young. Personally I love the show Teen Mom, I actually like these girls other than the others on 16 and pregnant. They are growing up mature adults
