What is the main thing that makes you unique?

Being unique includes but isn’t limited to these qualities: your Gifts, your Talents, your Attitude and most importantly who “You” think that you are.I think that we all want to create a persona that meets our goals of who we truly believe that we are in our heart and soul.

Why do we have to be unique? So much stress on being unique just makes people feel isolated. I want to belong. Nobody loves me. I hate this thread.

That alone does not make you unique. So far I love this thread- so you may be unique in your hatred of this thread. However, if that is the only way you are going to separate yourself from the "unwashed" masses- the hatred of a single thread on the internet, I am unimpressed.icon_lol.gif

What makes me unique? I'm actually quite a bizarre person at times; no-one ever really knows what I'm going to do next (I don't even know myself!) or what I'm thinking, so sometimes people find it difficult to really know me. A major part of it is because I am emotionally intense: my emotions drive me to do certain things in order to balance myself out but for the most part...I just like to shock people. If there's a convention, I'll break it; if there's an expectation I'll surpass it. I would like to say that I live life in accordance to God's plans, what I feel and what I want in life.

    I hate Jake Benson....but I KNOW that doesn't make me unique.... icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

The one thing that I think makes me somewhat unique it my trusting nature. I believe most people have integrity and are honest.... until proven otherwise.

Actually that's a valid point. ...there has to be some middle ground somewhere...just don't go and join a church that tries to brainwash you. we can't all be so unique to the point where no one can relate to one another. We must find common values and interests that bond and unite us.

I totally agree with Jake benson...

In fact the pressure to be unique is not at all a common human trait.. it is a typical Western value.... In Japan, being unique is actually a "bad" thing.... its a completely conformist society..

And even IN western society... like Jake said... the pressure to be unique does not usually override the desire to be a part of a group.. the desire to belong and to conform, its too much of a basic human need to be a part of a group

It's not a question of having to be unique, because we already are. We all have our different strengths, weaknesses, successes, failures in life which naturally make us unique. But the question is 'how'.

Actually I strongly disagree that there's too much stress on being unique -- I feel today's society restricts us in a lot of ways which pressures us to conform rather than individualize. An obvious example is the pressure of what it means to look good in society: girls are pressured to look ultra thin and guys are pressured to be big and muscular. Why can't we be 'unique' and accept our natural body shapes? Other examples in a different context, why is there so much bullying in kids that are seen as different from the rest; why do people generally aspire to be one of the popular kids in school; why are we classified as 'weird' and 'strange' if our opinions, interests or beliefs disagree with the majority?

Being unique doesn't separate us. It can do, but not always. I'm friends with a lot of people who are so different to me that sometimes I wonder how we're even friends. But nonetheless we are. Differences don't destroy unity.
