I start with abs at the start of my workout, and spend around 15-20 mins after every time I hit the gym

When I did abs at the end of the workout, I would get lazy and be like F*ck it, I already had a great work out. Diet is a huge part of it also, you gotta watch what you eat

Genetics played a big part. They were always lurking there - I would see some semblance of them if I squinted. They came full on when i started working out and even moreso when I started leading intense group fitness classes. The cardio from the classes was the complimentary key.

hey man, depending on your current condition, you can have the abs you want in a matter of weeks. there are 2 things you MUST be willing to endure to achieve the stomach you want and they are:
    1. YOU HAVE TO BE WILLING TO BE HUNGRY. As you change your eating habits and slow down on the intake to shrink your stomach, you will be hungry. There is no way around it. Many people don't acknowledge this fact and when it hits 'em in the face they cave. So, b4 you even begin, make the commitment to yourself that you will endure your temporary hunger. It usually takes about a 2 week period to get over the hump (somewhere in that 2nd week).
    2. YOU MUST GO TO BED ON AN EMPTY STOMACH. This means nothing for 2 hours b4 bedtime. Trust me, you will sleep so much better and the emptier your stomach when you go to bed, the flatter it will be in the morning.

    NOW FOR THE TRAINING:
    1. CARDIO IS A MUST. Some guys will tell you they don't do any cardio and they have the abs you want. It might be true for them, however, it isn't true for most people, so if you want to get there quickly, find a cardio exercise that is fun for you and DO NOT SLACK OFF! Don't cut your time off at the end, push yourself to keep to your plan. Also, wear a sweatshirt while you do your cardio. You will burn more fat and stimulate your metabolism. The more you stoke the flame of your metabolism with Cardio and a Resistance training routine that is quick, steady and deliberate, the faster you will get the ripped torso waiting for you under the 'lack of discipline' currently covering it up.
    2. I do a superset of crunches on the Exercise Ball (20 reps) then immediately I go into pull downs (kneeling at the cable machine, you use the ropes and set the height of the rope where it will cause you to execute a full stretch up, then crunching down into a ball) You should do 20 to 30 of these with no break in between AND DO 4 SETS. After you've completed each set, you should lie face down on the floor and using your arms, push your torso up, stretching your abs out. NOTE: the stretch will cause your abdominals to align and they will form a more symmetrical result.
    3. Next you will want to get the straps, clip 'em onto a chin up bar and slip your arms into them. Now you will do leg ups, going from str8 down and ending with knees at chest. Do 15 of these or as many as you can do....for 4 SETS!

    NOW FOR THE DIET:
NO CARBS AFTER 2PM. EAT OR DRINK LOTS OF PROTEIN AND ADD GLUT AMINE FOR FASTER HEALING. DO NOT CHEAT ON YOURSELF. REMEMBER: WHAT YOU EAT IN PRIVATE, SHOWS IN PUBLIC. YOU ARE ONLY FOOLING YOURSELF AND HOLDING BACK YOUR OWN DREAM IF YOU CHEAT ON YOURSELF, SO DON'T DO IT! ONCE YOU GET YOUR BODY TO WHERE YOU WANT IT, YOU MAY RETURN TO THE FOODS YOU LOVE IN SMALL SERVINGS AT APPROPRIATE TIMES OF THE DAY.

I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH....DRINK LOTS OF WATER...DRINK LOTS OF WATER....DRINK LOTS OF WATER! IF YOU STAY HYDRATED, YOU WILL LOSE THE WEIGHT AND CUT UP MUCH FASTER!

OH, I ALMOST FORGOT, SLEEP! BE SURE YOU GET YOUR SLEEP CUZ YOUR MUSCLES WILL GAIN IN DENSITY AND YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT FASTER IF YOU GET THE SLEEP YOUR BODY NEEDS TO DO WHAT YOU ARE ASKING OF IT.

As for when you should do your ab routine, I would say at the end of your workout. Thats when I do mine and I don't slack if I'm tired or for any other reason. Just make a deliberate choice to not cut corners and you will be amazed at the results. Take the responsibility for reaching your goals seriously. YOU HOLD THE POWER TO TRANSFORM YOUR BODY AND YOUR LIFE EXPERIENCE -- NO ONE ELSE CAN DO IT FOR YOU.

    My abs:

I befriended a sadistic model/ trainer who knew where I lived. For a straight year he would show up at my apartment and drag me to the gym with a variety of painful routines...... the worst was the decline medicine ball lob. I spent close to 2 hours a day working out.

I was also very careful with my diet. I ate mostly chicken, vegetables and fish. I cut out a lot of sugar from my day to day and quit soda.

Results became apparent after about two and a half months.

Diet, ab strengthening workouts and plenty of cardio. Abs are usually hidden beneat a fine layer of chub on the gut. When the chub's eliminated, the muscles become more visually defined.

Regarding the model/ trainer: When I made a wish to get hot and sweaty with a sexy, musclular adonis...... I should have been more specific.

the importance of this statement is truly underestimated.

Last night one of my skinny toned friend (ectomorph dominant) who has never lifted a screw snickered a joke about a contestant's "full frameness" on stage. I couldn't hold it in told him that its as hard for that guy to shed fat as it is for him to bulk up. He looked puzzled, I think people don't see how identifying with a combination of these these 3 body types can change their workout/diet routine forever.

I feel upset that I accidentally stumbled on this knowledge rather than informed, by shedding a lot of fat doing Atkins and realizing how amazing I felt without carbs for awhile. Weight training sites/books should really underline this more often.

For me it wasn't really there until I started to up my cardio and do more core exercises. I started Ab Ripper X and although it sucked for awhile I can now do all the exercises at their most difficult level. It has done wonders for my abs!! I also have been changing my diet and trying not to take in many carbs a day

^ Not really, not specific exercise regimen is going to shape the muscles or make them look better if the diet and genetics do not properly allow the superficial skin to show deep muscle tone.
