SKOPJE – A Macedonian court convicted a bear of theft and damage for stealing honey from a beekeeper who fought off the attacks with thumping "turbo-folk" music.

"I tried to distract the bear with lights and music because I heard bears are afraid of that," Zoran Kiseloski told top-selling daily Dnevnik after the yearlong case of the bear versus the beekeeper ended in the beekeeper's favour.

"So I bought a generator, lit up the area and put on songs of (Serbian "turbo-folk" star) Ceca."

The bear stayed away for a few weeks, but came back when the generator ran out of power and the music fell silent, Kiseloski said, adding, "it attacked the beehives again."

A court in the city of Bitola found the bear guilty, and since it had no owner and belonged to a protected species, ordered the state to pay the 140,000 denars ($3,500 U.S.) damage it caused to the hives.

There was no information on the whereabouts of the bear.

did the bear have access to a lawyer? if not, the whole thing should be thrown out on appeal. icon_wink.gif

i'd also encourage said bear to sue the honey keeper for using turbo-folk as an instrument of torture. is macedonia trying to join the EU? i'm afraid this will hurt their chances...

oh hell, now that you've asked some genius on here is going to go grab a sample from youtube and post it here... isn't it enough to know that it was awful enough to drive a bear away from food???

Wow, I was actually right... it sounds just like traditional folk music high on 80's new wave. Something similar to techno cumbia; which is also a sub genre and a song's title.

Now I know what that foreign sound I like so much has been called after all these years. Thanks Timberoo, dancerjack, and Freakyninjamonkey.

So did they don the beat with leather, gad his mouth put him in a basket so the other bears could have at him? Lol, j/k!

I wonder if it was the disco music the bees were playing that caught the attention of the bear. You know how bears love their disco....

Better watch out... Cause those bears are ready to Bring it...

If the bear was seen with a piglet then that should narrow down their investigation to accomplices. icon_wink.gif

Dammit, now I have a visual of the other type of bear (the hairy, chubby kind like I see at the bars) stuck in my mind. The kind that call other things honey. My mind is only a few inches from the gutter, so thanks for the push boiwunderkind. Now I've got disturbing pictures in my head.

Nice. I wish I could entice some crocodiles to eat some of the chickens in the backyard then I'll get the government to pay for it. MWAHAHAHA!
