Should I change my nickname? (synchronicity)

My first name is William but I've always gone by Bill as a nickname. I'm a Jr. so I just used my dad's nickname. But today something strange occurred.

I just recently started a new job and after training they moved me to a new cubicle with my legal name William on the cubicle. A woman asked if I go by William or Liam or another nickname. My friend/coworker was with me at the time and we were both like "Liam, what an awesome name, that fits!". I had no idea that in Ireland it was short for wilLIAM. Okay, so I talked with a few other coworkers and my new nickname has spread like wildfire.

Tonight I go home and start watching one of my shows....LIE TO ME.....online. In it is a character named Liam with the main character discussing that it is short for William in Ireland......ack! .....Okay so I've never ever heard of this before yet in one day I learn twice that Liam is short for William......WTF?

Has this type of event ever happened to you?

Also, should I change my nickname?

Oh, and I forgot to mention, I also talked to one of the ladies that sat right next to me in training at work. She is currently pregnant. I asked her if I should change my nickname to LIAM and she got all bug eyed and weirded out. I'm like....."are you ok?" and she said "The reason why I'm acting all weirded out is because I was just discussing last night calling my baby Liam"!!!!!!!!!

right go for it--seems to be the trend--go with the different name for a different time--you could still go back to being william icon_smile.gif

That stuff happens to me every day though mate...

When my ex-bf told me you can make a wish when the clock strikes 1:11 ten years ago, ive seen triple digits on the clock daily ever since.....

I was discussing going to LA for my music career with my brother who lives in LA just some days ago... day or two after (yesterday morning), I got a msg from a guy on FB who worked record companies in LA... telling me how to go about it in LA...., and then in the evening, on a cruise boat, over here o the island, I met a singer-songwriter who lives and works in LA...

They dont surprise me or phase me anymore... in fact my idea of life is that its basically nothing more than one huge, ongoing co-incidence anyway

People don't give a shit what you think you should be called.

As long as you are good at what you do and how you present yourself to the world the entire question becomes mute and silly

You call the shots and you will be called whatever you want to be called.

You tell them how you want to be called

Put up or shut up. It's that simple. It's all about if you have something that people want and not how great you think you should be.icon_biggrin.gif

Prove yourself. It's called talent skills and integrity and has nothing to do with nicknames.

Sorry........I'm still in a bad mood and fed up with whining nonsense.

I'm another William. I'm a writer, half irish by birth. My pen name is Lliam Ryan, using the last and first parts of my first and last names. Wow ponder that sentence if you've been smoking drugs, which I haven't been. I have been stuck with Bill mostly, sometimes William, but I would love to be a Lliam!

It happens to me a lot too but I usually try to ignore how surreal it all is because it challenges my assumptions on reality. This time it really threw me because I was watching the Lie To Me show in the background while I was considering the name and the characters were saying the name out loud while I was thinking it.

Btw, I am not whining about this at all. I am more in awe and amazed at life and how it can throw you those interesting curve balls.

Be careful of what you ask for.

A true story of my best friend:
He gets his first job at 18 and they ask "Do you want to be called Charles or Chuck?"
"I don't really care as long as you pay me." he says with a grin.

His first paycheck was made out to "Richard"

Aww I thought this was going to be about the tv show Synchronicity... I loved that show icon_razz.gif

But yeah... Liam sounds MUCH better than William in my opinion.

I dont know why but William just reminds me of annoying snooty people... Then again all the Williams that I know really are though...

Nought wrong with having a different name at work and it's not all that uncommon. My mom now in her 80's had the nickname Peg or Peggy and she wasn't even a Margaret. She doesn't even remember now how it came to be that people started calling her Peggy. In other situations outside of work mostly she goes by her given name but either works and gets her attention.
My partner used his first name for business but his middle name was the name he grew up using and all family and friends know him by. .
Not really any different than JFK being referred to as either John or jack.
So if you want to be Liam, be Liam

I always preferred Liam to Bill, more relevantly I just think Liam is a really nice name.
Change it if you like it. (As for the universe suggesting anything: icon_rolleyes.gif; just go with what you like.)

I always thought it was interesting that many gay men I know usually only respond to their given proper name such as Richard, James, and Christian rather than Rick, Jim, or Chris.

    Here's another synchronicity:

just now I was typing a reply to the forum on "learning guitar" , where the OP was talking about having bought one... while Im typing, my guitar student calls me out of the blue to inform me about a guitar sale...

haha, I dont call them "signs" or "suggestions".. its just more like your world reflecting back to you what your mind is focusing on or something... its prolly psychological and subconscious, but perfectly natural

I personally like Liam more than Bill. Also I think it will suit you great with those sweet blue eyes and an action hero physique.
