No, he was murdered by an intolerant bigot who couldn't stand the thought of someone being different.

You are suggesting he brought it on himself for acting differently from the group norm.

Do you also think that women bring rape upon themselves for wearing short skirts and red lipstick?

Not to sound like a jerk, but I believe it's the bullet from the pistol is what did him in.

I remember when I found out about this story, I went to work and told the story from what I could recall. From the source I heard the story, the kid who was killed had asked the guy would who eventually kill him to be his Valentine. Now while the accuracy of the story is always arguable, it was really depressing to hear the story.

After I told what I could remember about the story at work, a co-worker (in jest) made a comment like "he had it coming" or "he got what he deserved." He's one of those guys who tries a little too hard to be funny. I wasn't so much offended as I was shocked he said it. My co-workers immediately jumped on his case about it, but it does make me think about how people really view this sort of story.

If a finger NEEDS to be pointed at anyone, I don't think it's the 15 year old kid who is just trying to be himself. I don't mean to sound like a victim, but I was the type of kid who felt he had to hide his outspoken fun-loving (perceivably) gay self to avoid negative attention and/or violence. I look back and think what a difference I could have made on my life and maybe the lives of others had I just stood up for myself. Then to see a 15 year old kid who is that bold getting killed? And we all know there are people out there who would just applaud that kid who killed him like he was a hero. It's all just really upsetting to me.

I'm not saying he brought it unto himself. the article from the gay magazine describe the kid live in a group home that shape him into a flamboyant kid ahead of his time. I'm just asking if people feel that way too.

I agree that no amount of self expression should bring about a bullet in your head. But I'm mainly more interested in the non-violent "reaction" we caused. a woman fully clothed like a muslin woman will cause less "reaction" then a half naked woman walking down the street with a dildo in her hand. neither deserve to be raped, but one of them is asking for more.

another example such as a car crash, the guy could acting self assertive and polite with the whole deal, while he could also up scale it and act obnoxious, curse and make a scene. which will bring about "reaction" more then the other?

Now this kid is well known for being gay in the school, even dress accordingly in case someone miss that. Now even openly telling other guys to be his valentine, without care for how they would feel. No, no one should die over it, but the "in your face" kinda attitude is inviting "reaction" more then anyone can handle, especially a kid.
