    UPDATE:

We sincerely appreciate you bringing this matter to our attention. As you know, The Salvation Army strives to live out our mission of meeting human need without discrimination. Our doors are always open to anyone who seeks our help, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation. We simply do not discriminate against the people we serve or the people we hire.

We have removed the page of referrals for sexual addiction centers. Truthfully this was an old page that had been archived but was reposted when we launched our new website last month. We apologize for our oversight and any confusion this may have caused. The Salvation Army does not consider homosexual orientation a sin. Please know that we serve anyone who comes to our doors without discrimination.

To learn more about our work please visit http://salvationarmyusa.org/usn/nodiscrimination.

Feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions or if you would like to speak with Major Ron Busroe, our National Community Relations & Development Secretary.

    Thanks again,

    Jennifer Byrd
    Director of Communications
    The Salvation Army
    National Headquarters

I've always found it such a pity that people will cut off their nose to spite their face.

So be it. Another organization will step in to provide care or the city will find an alternative. Unfortunately, the homeless will have to suffer while this reorganization takes place. It's a temporary issue.

Or in the best case scenario, maybe the Salvation Army will change its belief.

    It's an old article.
But for the sake of intelligent discussion (if that is possible):

If it had to be one or the other, which has more merit?
    a) to pass a law that will benefit those who are employed, or
    b) to accommodate a religious group whose efforts benefit millions of homeless

Not surprised at this at all. IT'S A RELIGIOUSLY BASED ORANISATION!!
Wake up people.......organised religion is Our enemy!!!
Sounds dramatic I know, but it's the truth. EVERY predjudice We face as Gay people stems from religion. EVERY ONE! icon_mad.gif

Yeah, I recall reading this a few years back. I don't think they've changed their discrimination policies against LGBT. Given that they gear up on their collections during the holidays I think this serves as a good reminder to everyone that there are other charitable organizations, both local and national, that provides the same type of services to the homeless irrespective of their sexual orientation.or gender identity. I know they say they don't actually turn away people but if they can fuck over their employees who know if they actually telling the truth.

In other words, fuck the salvation army, give your money to someone else.

I don't support the SA, precisely because it is a religion. But, does anyone know: Do they discriminate by sexual orientation regarding whom they provide services to? If i'm not mistaken, the issue in the article was that they won't extend health benefits to domestic partners of employees.

No, they don't actually question people about their sexual orientation before providing services. They take anyone who needs helps. However, there are other organizations that do the same. DON'T stop giving just reallocate your money to another organization.

TRDMRK saidHave u guys ever seen a movie called Please Give? It's a bout a lady and her husband in New York who run a furniture store and all of the furniture they get, they get it from deceased people after they've gone.. they buy the furniture and sell it for more than 3 times the price.. well, in the movie, she feels guilt because of it and spends her every single day giving money to homeless people because of it.. she's always coming down on herself for what she's doing and the irony of the thing is, that while she's going around trying to be fair to everybody and feels guilty for what she's doing, just about everyone she meets is fucking her in the ass while she's too busy feeling miserable for herself and they do it with great pleasure.. this article and that movie, make me feel glad that I've never felt guilt for never having given them a flippin dime! nor will i begin to.

Not even if they're "fucking you in the ass"?...

Directly or indirectly this is true. People either homophobic because their pastor told them to be and their fragile sense of security comes from having people to hate, or because they are lazy traditionalists, trusting in a traditional culture which, surprise, was based on religious hate.

There are plenty (though not enough) churches that are on our side... the Methodists, Episcopalians, some Lutherans, Presbyterians, the list goes on and on... Don't condemn all of them because of a couple of black sheep.

Yes there are some that support us, but not even all among the denominations that you listed. When you say "a couple of black sheep", you make it sound like they are the exception among Christians. It is really the other way around. The exception is the Christians that are open minded and welcoming of glbt people.
