I was always worried that my grandparents wouldn't approve of my being gay but I got a letter from grandma today saying that my mom told her over the summer, but that she knew since I was around 5 and that her and my grandpa still love me just the same. I teared up a little bit.. I have always shied away from extended family for that reason.

One of the best days ever

What a lucky man!.....Your grandparents are so cool...to let you know that they know you are gay...and are OK with it and still love you......and you only "teared up a little bit?"....I'd have been absolutely crying my eyes out and on the phone with them!....at the very least! Congratulations!

It's nice that you got a letter the old fashioned way. It somehow means more nowadays since we live in a world of emails.

Glad that the letter made your day. And yes agreed, grandma's are the best!

D'oh, it's not a matter of expecting, but rather wondering, and even a little worried.

Did you read over the part where he said he worried his grandparents wouldn't approve of him being gay? It was in the first sentence.

That implies that he thought they were jerks. Sorry, I just scanned it.

I've known that my family aren't jerks. There's a certain family dynamic where you know about unconditional love. I suppose some folks don't get that.

Just the heading of this topic made me smile. My Grandmother died before she could find out about me. icon_sad.gif I don't know how she would have taken it either.
