At my PT's behest, I am trying out roller blading.

Supposed to be good for building up the core balancing muscles and legs and ankles....and burning calories

I know I can feel the sweat running down my back in the house now.

    Ok off to the gym.

The hardest part about rollerblading is telling your parents you are gay.

Funny, just decided recently to try Rollerblading, and I wanted to ask for suggestions on what I should by and where. Any tips?

I've been looking for a new sport, and as I have a long bike path next to my house, this should have been a no brainer, but I just figured it out.

Okay, I had a typo in my initial posting. I know I need to buy skates. Particular type? Good place to purchase? Things to look out for?

I just dusted my skates off. Im excited to get back into it. Love the freedom and speed.

Do you guys wear protective gear? I never did but feel guilty about not wearing it now.

I should try roller blading again. I tried it once and didn't care for it (1991-ish). I love roller skating and was just looking at my roller skates the other day. The problem with roller skating is that no one seems to want to go along and you just can't skate anywhere. When I do go, there are too many 'rules' that it isn't fun. I have been repremanded almost every time by the rink staff for something or another. Skating forward only and no tricks is borring.
I remember the days when it was okay to join hands with a fellow skater and try to spin the hell out of each other until one of us flies away from breaking centripetal force. lol.

I've never rollerbladed before, and I hear it's completely different form quad skates. Is this true?

I was a competetive ice skater when I was younger and can attest to the serious case of RockAss you get as a result. Rollerblading, while not the same, produces similar results. One of the greatest parts of living in Chicago is being able to rollerblade along the lake during warmer weather. Nothing better in life!

    Love it lol!!

I used to skate around the tennis court at my school. I'm not really skillful though lol, I can only skate forward, can't jump, can't move backward, no tricks. I do wish to pick up those things soon though

I used to LOVE rollerblading. We renovated our house when I was a kid for alost 6 years, and during that time we lived in our basement. It had a perfectly smooth cement floor, so my twin sister and I would turn on music and rollerblade around for hours and hours. I have very fond memories of that. icon_smile.gif

I like your version better, too. But I was harking back to the golden age of Cas' era - he was 19 when the original version hit the airwaves. icon_lol.gif

Thanks for thinking of me a year later ... icon_eek.gif

I love non skating forums. There such much fun to read. One of the hardest and easiest workouts with inline is going up the hill. Bright side if the hill is short, you can always adjust you speed so you roll backwards in a safe manner. 2 skates forward and 1 skate backwards.

I love rollerblading! It's a happy medium between cycling and running. I found running too hard on my knees and hips (and I'm 22... kinda sad LOL) and biking doesn't do it for me fully.

The freedom of rollerblading is exhilerating! And yes.. it gives you a nice butt and legs icon_razz.gif
