In early November 2010, Nielsen was admitted to a Fort Lauderdale, Florida hospital for pneumonia. On November 28, Doug Nielsen, Nielsen's nephew, announced to the CJOB radio station that Nielsen had died in his sleep around 5:30 p.m. EST, surrounded by family and friends. He stated "Today at 5:30, with his friends and his wife Barbaree by his side, he just fell asleep and passed away." His nephew reflected on Nielsen's life, "He was truly a nice man. A very caring, naturally funny guy in day-to-day life, not just because someone wrote something on paper for him. He was a very tender-hearted man. He was one of my best friends and I loved him dearly. I'll miss him greatly."

What a loss. He was such a great character actor. And, I think what his nephew said about him is consistent with all else I've heard about him. He was a class-act guy. I hope the accounts that he did not suffer and passed in his sleep are true. He deserved a gentle way out......

Airplane, Spy Hard, and Dracula: Dead and Loving It are some of my favorite comedies. He really was a great comedian. Surely he will be missed. Don't call me Shirley.

Don't forget, he was a serious actor before he went to comedy... Remember one of the greatest Sci-Fi movies of ALL time????... Forbidden Planet, 1956...

And, Tammy and the Bachelor, with Debbie Reynolds....

"I just want to wish all good luck, and we're all counting on you!"

I love going into random classrooms and offices by interrupting what is going on by saying that.

    I miss you already. L.N. (1926-2010).icon_cry.gif

Not often that I feel much when a celebrity passes... but this is one man who brought me too many hours of joy and laughter not to feel something. Reading this news brought a sad smile to my face. You can not help but to remember his style and delivery of some line and smile just a little while you reflect on the loss of this genius.

My condolences to his friends and family.

I liked him in the movie Airplane but these happen to be my two favorite scenes.

I still watch Airplane from time to time and it still makes me laugh! There are just some movies that you can never get tired of watching. This on is at the top of the list for me!!

I actually enjoyed his older serious acting roles.
Never understood the later slapstick type of comedy he got involved in. icon_confused.gif
Regardless, he was a fine actor and will be missed. icon_sad.gif
